Wheel Of Fortune Player Shocked Fans With 'Best Intro Of All Time'

Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak cheers on Blair Davis Merv Griffin Enterprises

It's not every day that a Wheel of Fortune player goes viral, but Blair Davis of Cardiff, California tickled fans -- and got Pat Sajak giggling -- with the "best intro of all time." That intro had him announcing himself to be "trapped in a loveless marriage for the last 12 years," calling his wife "an old battle-ax" who cursed him with three stepchildren and a "rotten grandson." Fans were thrilled:

Of course, he was joking. That clip didn't show it, but here's how Blair's full conversation with Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak played out:

Blair Davis: I've been trapped in a loveless marriage for the last 12 years to an old battle-ax named Kim. She cursed my life with three step-children named Star, R.J. and Ryan. And I have one rotten grandson.Pat Sajak: Yay! No wonder you came here. You just wanted to get away from everybody. ... I know you're being facetious.Blair: Absolutely. I love them like nobody's business.Pat: I'll bet you do. What's the story of your beard and your grandson?Blair: I started growing the beard a couple years back, and every time I threaten to shave it off, he gives me a really hard time.Pat: So it's gonna stay, apparently.Blair: He's grown used to it.Pat: OK, good to have you. Don’t let it get tangled up in the wheel, that’s all we ask!

Some fans seemed fond of the idea that Blair actually meant what he said about his family, appreciating that he was "truthful":

Since that clip and others like it went viral, some fans who didn't watch the full episode didn't realize Blair was joking -- even with Pat Sajak and the (probably confused) audience laughing along. (There's no need to joke about that beard being amazing, though. The rotten grandson is right to insist on its survival.)

Blair's Wheel of Fortune intro made him briefly famous, and maybe after this we'll see even more game show contestants get creative with their intros to stand out.

Maybe you can even be the next Wheel of Fortune contestant to come up with a fun intro. Here's how to become a player on the show. And here's how winning on the show really works.

A few months ago, Wheel of Fortune's Vanna White said she and Pat Sajak have only had one argument in 36 years -- and it was over something really stupid. For his part, Sajak recently opened up on when he wants to leave the show. It sounds like he would like to leave when the show is still popular, but hopefully he sticks around for a while. We need our game show legends like Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek to stick around as long as possible.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
