The Good Place Ending 'Will Be Worth It,' Promises Kristen Bell

Eleanor in The Good Place

They say all things must come to an end. That's certainly true in the television world, as even the most long-running series must eventually reach their conclusion with a series finale. Some shows will be coming to an end this TV season, chief among them being NBC's quirky comedy The Good Place. Season 4 will be the final outing for Eleanor and her friends, and Kristen Bell recently teased that it's getting an especially satisfying conclusion.

The Good Place has gone in a ton of wild places narratively over the years. What started as a show about people in heaven has become a much more complicated and existential series about morality. Season 3's finale set up some high stakes as Eleanor opened up her own version of The Good Place, complete with an amnesiac Chidi. When speaking about the final season and its eventual series finale, Kristen Bell said:

This will be worth it. It will give you a lot of feelings — and one is a strong sense of satisfaction. Not only will the ending be worth it, you’ll understand why the whole thing was worth it.

Well, this is certainly exciting. While its often difficult to end TV shows and craft a compelling final episode (I'm looking at you Game of Thrones), it seems that The Good Place will have an ending that will connect to the overall series in an exciting way. But how this will happen remains to be seen.

Kristen Bell's comments to EW are sure to be a relief for Good Place fans who might be worried about how the show will wrap up later this year. Since the show deals with such high concepts, it doesn't seem out of the question that the finale might be disappointing. After all, it's a complicated and unique story to end. But Bell's comments indicate something very special during the final episodes of Season 4, which will harken all the way back to the show's more humble roots.

The first three season of The Good Place allowed its quirky group of characters to grow and change during the afterlife. Despite actually being in The Bad Place, Eleanor and the rest of the group found friendship and love with each other. And after becoming better people after death, Michael attempted to change the way "goodness" is measured, in hopes of sparing his friends' afterlives. But whether or not this plan will come to fruition will become clear in Season 4.

Season 3 ended with Eleanor taking over for Ted Danson's Michael, and he was crippled with fear and anxiety. It'll be up to her and Janet to keep the experiment going, including guiding a Chidi who doesn't remember their time together. Will they find love and happiness in the afterlife? Only time will tell.

The Good Place Season 4 premiers tonight on NBC, with new episodes airing every Thursday. In the meantime, check out our fall premiere list to plan your next binge watch.
