Where's Worf? CBS Claims Michael Dorn Won't Be In Star Trek: Picard Season 1

Worf Picard Star Trek: The Next Generation

As the days continue to tick down to the premiere of Star Trek: Picard in 2020, speculation continues to mount about which characters will reunite with Jean-Luc Picard in his latest adventure. It's been confirmed characters like Data, Riker, Deanna Troi, and others will make an appearance but a recent on-set photo led many to believe there was one other we didn't know about. Unfortunately, though, it appears that CBS is coming out and saying these rumors are false and Michael Dorn will not return as Worf.

The rumor first surfaced when Star Trek: Picard's cinematographer Philip Lanyon posted a photo on Instagram of a signed clapper he received from the cast as a gift. Among those names was an unrecognized signature, which a fan showed on Twitter looked a lot like the signature of Michael Dorn.

Despite the evidence presented, CBS is saying it isn't going to happen. A representative cited a conversation with the casting team of Star Trek: Picard in a statement to Newsweek, and said that Michael Dorn is not going to appear in the season. If that's the case, then whose signature is on that clapper and why does it look like Dorn's signature?

There's a couple explanations, of course, as Dorn signing a clapper is not a contract that ensures he's a part of Star Trek: Picard. Dorn might've been on set that day visiting his old friends, and possibly discussing the terms of a Worf appearance in Season 2. We do know that the show has already reached out to some actors for the following season, so perhaps Worf's cameo is on the way?

Another possibility is that the casting team is telling a little white lie, and Worf will appear in Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard. If he is appearing Worf would be one of the only confirmed characters left out of the trailer. Perhaps he plays a key role in the plot, or doesn't come into the story until the late stages and that's why his appearance would be best kept a secret?

Finally, there's a reasonable reason to suspect there's no conspiracy and that CBS is telling the truth about Worf not appearing in Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard. The signature could be from Dorn, who is likely friends with people within the show's cast, or it could be someone with a similar looking signature. After all, that signature doesn't really look like it says "Michael Dorn," so it could be anyone.
