Game of Thrones’ Richard Dormer is set to lead another giant fantasy TV show. The actor brought Lord Beric Dondarrion to life throughout the HBO series’ run, playing a pivotal role in the Battle of Winterfell. For those who enjoyed his time as the leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners, this is welcome news!

Richard Dormer will go from weaving in and out of the story to leading it in the upcoming BBC America series, The Watch. It is inspired by Sir Terry Pratchett’s bestselling “Discworld” novels, which fantasy fans may already be familiar with. Pratchett is also the co-author of the book, Good Omens, which was recently adapted into the series of the same name. Now to The Watch

The eight-episode series is set in a fictional city, Ankh-Morpork, wherein crime has been legalized. Accordingly, The Watch will center on a group of “misfit cops” as they work to save their corrupt city from the brink of catastrophe.

Who is Richard Dormer playing?

Great question! You can watch Richard Dormer as Sam Vimes, the Captain of The Watch. Vimes has been left powerless by a society that is broken, and part of his power position comes from reducing the jurisdiction of his department to near nothing. Something tells me that he is going to try to overhaul things.

Filling the role of the “idealistic new recruit” will be Adam Hugill as Constable Carrot, a human who was raised by dwarfs after being abandoned at birth. Yes, that's a real plotline.

Joining Richard Dormer and Adam Hugill in The Watch is Don’t Forget the Driver’s Jo Eaton-Kent as Constable Cheery. Constable Cheery is a genius, non-binary forensics expert. Spurned by their relatives, Eaton-Kent’s character is working to find a new home and identity. Next, working to keep Constable Carrot alive during training is Corporal Angua. Strike Back’s Marama Corlett (pictured right) will portray the character, who is described as “mysterious.”

Robin Hood’s Lara Rossi will play Lady Sybil Ramkin. As noted by BBC America, she is the last scion of the city’s nobility. Described as “formidable,” Lady Sybil is motivated to do something about the status of Ankh-Morpork. In the effort to right the city’s wrong, Lady Sybil utilizes “chaotic vigilantism” as the means to do so.

Dixi’s Sam Adewunmi will take on the role of Carcer Dun, who is described as “wounded” and “wronged.” Out to takeover destiny itself, Dun works to capture control of Ankh-Morpork. In doing so, Dun aims to exact a “terrible revenge” on a reality that is not just.

Behind the camera, The Musketeers’ Simon Allen will serve as the series’ lead writer. Also, part of the writing team is Doctor Who’s Joy Wilkinson, Torchwood’s Catherine Tregenna, Little America’s Amrou Al-Khadi, and Skins’ Ed Hime.

Richard Dormer made it to the final season of Game of Thrones, and he had quite a few memorable moments leading up to and during it. As the leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners, Dormer played a range of emotions. His character on The Watch will probably not have a sword that lights aflame to help him in his crusade. You never know, though! Who could have expected Game of Thrones fans to have possibly been more satisfied with the final season than many likely believed?

When Can You Watch The “Genre-Bending,” “Anarchic Drama”?

In other exciting news, Craig Viveiros (who helmed Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None) is set to direct The Watch. The BBC America series will begin filming in Cape Town, South Africa at the end of September, so we should be seeing it on the small screen sooner rather than later.

In fact, The Watch is currently set to premiere in 2020 on BBC America. A precise air date has not been set for the drama, which the network calls "genre-bending" and "anarchic," so stay tuned. In the meantime, keep watch on what is premiering this fall. You can also check out Richard Dormer making his stand as Beric Dondarrion in Game of Thrones’ final season. It is already available on digital.
