Supergirl Season 5 Is Bringing Jeremy Jordan's Winn Back, But For How Long?

supergirl kara and winn season 3

Supergirl may have said goodbye to Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor in that hectic Season 4 finale that introduced the comic organization Leviathan for the first time, but the CW drama will thankfully get to welcome back a former star when Season 5 arrives. It has been confirmed that Jeremy Jordan will be returning to Supergirl to reprise the role of Winn Schott, who has been absent from the show for a while.

For any Supergirl fans who were missing the BFF chemistry between Jeremy Jordan's Winn and Melissa Benoist's Kara and Mehcad Brooks' James, Season 5 will offer some relief, although we'll be waiting a while. While the exact timeline for Jordan's return hasn't been locked down just yet, it looks like Winn will be around for at least three different episodes, though they'll all be coming in the back half of Season 5.

All additional details about Jeremy Jordan's Supergirl comeback are being hidden from prying eyes, according to Entertainment Tonight, but it does appear that Winn's return is being purposefully held until after the highly anticipated "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event. Is that a clue in and of itself?

The last time fans laid eyes on Winn Schott within Supergirl's narrative, it was back in the Season 3 finale, "Battles Lost and Won." At that point, Brainiac 5 realized that his work with Kara & Co. was far from over, so he got Winn to zip off into the future alongside Mon-El to become part of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Since then, news updates about the character's existence have been pretty few and far between.

So if Winn is returning to Kara's Earth in Season 5 after "Crisis on Infinite Earths," what does that mean for that particular Earth-38 universe? It all depends on how "Crisis" plays out, of course, and whether or not the The CW dramas will revolutionize the multiverse by bringing everything together into a singular existence. At this point, it's still unclear what The Monitor's plans are, and whether or not fans will get to see his counterpart the Anti-Monitor get introduced.

If all the universes do come together as one, that would make it a lot easier to make crossovers happen between Supergirl, Batwoman and the other DC shows. Jeremy Jordan already knows a thing or two about that, having appeared in two episodes of The Flash already, with one of those being a "Crisis on Earth-X" installment. Could Winn possibly make appearances on the other dramas on top of the three Supergirl episodes he locked down? It's certainly possible.

When Jeremy Jordan stepped away from Supergirl in 2018, he stated at the time that he wanted to branch out in his career, though he made it clear even then that Winn was not leaving the series for good. He'll have been gone for at least a season and a half by the time the back half of Season 5 arrives, so here's hoping Winn has some amazing stories to tell about his futuristic exploits.

Supergirl will return to The CW for Season 5 on Sunday, October 6, at 9:00 p.m. ET. It will air directly after the series premiere of Ruby Rose's Batwoman, so get ready for a fall schedule full of kickass women in costumes.
