Jimmy Fallon joined guest Selena Gomez in enduring what is probably one of his most miserable segments ever on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. For a vicious segment featuring Hot Ones' host Sean Evans, Fallon and Gomez answered questions while eating a selection of super-duper spicy wings – as in, hot enough to have popped out of a volcano.

Check out the video below to see Jimmy Fallon as uncomfortable as he's ever been while not being criticized by the public.

Things got hot rather quickly on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. There were four stages of spiciness for the wings Fallon and Selena Gomez were eating, with each escalating in a manner that can only be described as maliciously aggressive. There was milk on hand, for what that's worth. No one needed to be a hero, but in a final bow, both Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez made a bold move into misery. More on that in a bit.

Jimmy Fallon is no stranger to making himself, and his guests, endure some unpleasant things. It was not too long ago that he and Ryan Reynolds spit all over each other in the name of comedy, and Fallon probably longed for something so innocent during this wing segment. It would have put the fire out, even though milk is better than another person's saliva for that sort of thing.

At first, Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez were doing great. They got through their first spicy wings without much incident, but then things rapidly ramped up. Jimmy started getting hot with the Trinidad Scorpion. At one point, he began to holler, and in the end, he even barked, among other noises.

What Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez were experiencing was pure misery for both their taste buds and their nerve endings. The Tonight Show host was barely hanging on throughout the challenge, and every bite seemed like torture.

The third hot wing really took it out of Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez, though. Both began to visibly struggle even more. Jimmy writhed and wiggled and ultimately screamed, with one of the most harrowing moments started at the 5:29 mark.

Jimmy Fallon could not help but cry out with a pained squeal. Check it out:

It looked like Jimmy Fallon was getting ready to lose it at one point. However, he somehow hung on in the face of teary eyes and the inability to speak coherently.

It was around this moment where things got so hot that he had to cover his face with a napkin, as Selena Gomez was about to cry. All in the name of comedy, right?

It almost looked like he was either sneezing or was about to shove the napkin in his mouth to block the pain.

Then came the infamous “last dab.” The Hot Ones host explained that it was a tradition to put an extra dab of fiery sauce on the final bites. Despite already being in tremendous distress, Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez both went for it like the total pros that they are.

By the end, though, Jimmy Fallon was literally a hot mess, and Selena Gomez’s mascara was running due to her tears. Check out Jimmy imbibing in this relaxing and much-earned intake of milk, which could only help so much.

Please tell me that Jimmy Fallon rewarded himself and Selena Gomez with a more pleasant meal afterward. Having that to look forward to is the only way I could make it through a segment like this. They survived though, and it is mind-blowing that they did without screaming obscenities. How they felt later in the day is another question.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon may have left its NYC opening behind, but no behind-the-scenes shuffling is going to stop this show from delivering the laughs and attempts to fool viewers.

New episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon air this summer on weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
