Psych is officially getting another TV movie, and this one will have a lot more Lassie. USA has green-lit the sequel to Psych: The Movie and production is starting soon. As in super soon. Before we get into those details, here is the Lassie-loaded synopsis for the sequel:

Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) is ambushed on the job and left for dead. In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, he begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn (Roday) and Gus (Hill) return to Lassie’s side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural. Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.

This premise sounds incredibly intriguing. Production is set to start next month (March 2019) in Vancouver, per TVLine. The title has also been unveiled. As expected, it is to-the-point and precisely along the lines of the first Psych movie. The sequel is entitled Psych: The Movie 2 and brings back James Roday and Dulé Hill.

The news is huge for fans of Timothy Omundson’s Lassie. It had previously been teased that Lassie would be featured more in the sequel. With this news comes the exciting confirmation that Psych is coming through with that in a major way.

Due to Timothy Omundson’s health at the time of the first movie’s filming, he had to put in a brief appearance as Lassie. Omundson was still recovering from a stroke at the time of filming.

Fans will now see Lassie take center stage in a huge mystery, and Shawn and Gus will return to help him solve it. From the sound of things, Shawn, Gus, and Lassie are in for a very elaborate bit of intrigue. What may seem impossible to Lassie could have a practical explanation once Gus and Shawn are done investigating.

Shawn and Gus will have their work cut out for them. It is one thing not to be able to have the police or their loved ones to help them. But not being able to have quality sourdough treats from Bay Area bakeries is downright cruel. Hopefully, they can find a way to fix that after they solve the mystery.

Psych is not holding back for its sequel. The premise hints at a vast and far-reaching case with overarching implications. It is hard to miss the most foreboding part of the tease, which occurs towards the end. The synopsis states that what Gus and Shawn uncover will forever change “the course of their relationships.” Wow!

This all sounds like it is going to be worth the wait for Psych-Os. While the sequel hit a delay along the way, Psych’s second movie adventure is now moving forward in full force.

In July 2018, the movie had to be postponed due to the busy schedules of its stars. James Roday and Dulé Hill both have TV shows they are working on. Roday is on ABC’s hit drama A Million Little Things and Hill is on USA’s long-running legal series, Suits. Thankfully, they have worked out their schedules to do the sequel.

So, when can you expect Psych: The Movie 2 to debut? The sequel is anticipated to premiere on USA, later in 2019. Will it be another holiday-timed treat? Wait and see. There is a lot to watch in the meantime.
