Dominic Purcell Joins The Arrow And Flash Spinoff

There may not be any story details known for the Arrow/The Flash spinoff announced several weeks back, but the lineup is filling up with familiar faces. Both heroes and villains from this DC TV universe will be teaming up together in this proposed project. Now the latest actor to join the cast is Prison Break star Dominic Purcell, who will be heating things up as noted Flash adversary Mick Rory, a.k.a. Heat Wave.

Deadline reports that Purcell will be reprising his role as the fire-obsessed criminal for the spinoff. This will see him once again appearing alongside his partner-in-crime Leonard Snart, a.k.a Captain Cold, played by Purcell’s Prison Break co-star Wentworth Miller. Like the rest of the characters, it’s unclear how Heat Wave will get involved with this unusual group, but it’s a good thing Cold will be with him since his pyromania can get out of control if not properly watched. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if however Cold joins this team, he stipulates that Heat Wave tag along with them. Fire and ice…sorry, cold, are a good combination.

Heat Wave was introduced off-camera in The Flash episode “Going Rogue,” where Captain Cold convinced him to partner up by offering him a high-tech flamethrower gun, giving him an outlet for his fire obsession. He later appeared fully in “Revenge of the Rogues,” teaming with Cold on a massive crime spree, and together they nearly took down the Scarlet Speedster. The pyromaniac will be returning with Cold in Episode 16, titled “Rogue Time,” where they’ll be teaming up with Cold’s sister Lisa, played by Peyton List. Heat Wave has been one of the Flash’s most well-known enemies in the comics since 1963. He previously appeared in the animated shows Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Purcell joins a cast that consists of Miller, Brandon Routh as The Atom, Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein and Caity Lotz, although it’s unknown whether she’ll be reprising her role as Sara Lance or playing a new character. The article mentions that Robbie Amell will not be signing on to play Ronnie Raymond, meaning fans won’t be seeing him join with Stein to become Firestorm. The project will also include three mystery DC heroes who have never appeared on TV before.

This spinoff is still in the planning stages, although it is being looked at for a 2016 midseason premiere. The project is being executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.
