Whether he's playing Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones or Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DC Cinematic Universe movies, there's a good chance that you associate Jason Momoa with his big, mangy beard. The actor has kept the razor at bay as his career status continues to skyrocket, but he decided to bring out the tweezers for a very special cause. In a video released online this week, Jason Momoa is seen shaving off his prominent beard to bring public awareness to a new water preservation effort he is currently backing. Because after all, Aquaman needs clean water to thrive. Beards are secondary when it comes to offering recyclable water containers.
In the video, which was released on the actor's YouTube channel, Jason Momoa is seen wandering the desert with a fellow beard-wearing man, looking out at all the litter and trash — notably, plastic bottles — that pollutes the Earth. It doesn't take long before these hairy gentlemen bring out their electric razors and snip away at their beards. But Momoa pays his respects to a few familiar faces in the process. As the buzzing razor makes contact with the actor's face, Momoa makes sure to say goodbye to a few of his famous characters, including Drago and Arthur Curry.
Jason Momoa admits that the last time he shaved his beard — at least, to the best of his recollection — was all the way back in 2012. That checks out. As the actor's timeline showcases, that would've been around the time Jason Momoa appeared in the Sylvester Stallone action film Bullet to the Head, and it was a year or so after his leading role in 2011's dire Conan the Barbarian remake. Evidently, the bearded life has been treating him a little better, particularly with his work as Aquaman and his Netflix series Frontier. But Momoa felt it was imperative to shave his beard to bring attention to his latest environmental effort: Infinitely Recyclable Aluminum.
As Jason Momoa notes while he is shaving, plastic is killing the planet. It has been harming the ocean — i.e. Aquaman's playground — and it hasn't been as efficient as aluminum cans, which are much easier to recycle and reuse. Therefore, his new project allows people to drink water from the can and recycle the aluminum container once they are done. No fuss, no muss. The actor believes it will be a lot more beneficial to the planet, and it was an important-enough issue that he felt the need to get rid of his prominent facial hair in order to bring attention to this cause.

It's unclear if Jason Momoa's clean-shaved face will impact any of his future acting roles. Though, truth be told, he can always just put on a fake beard — or, you know, grow it back. Just as long as Warner Bros. doesn't feel the need to resort to CG beards. That would be a nightmare. In any case, according to this new YouTube video, Jason Momoa is currently walking around completely clean-shaving. And it's hard to know exactly how long the beard-less life with last for the furry-faced celebrity. But one thing is for sure: beards can be shaved off, but the environmental preservative efforts take a lot more work. And these efforts to restore the earth should hopeful last longer than any piece of facial hair, including Momoa's beard.
