With wishes of a Happy New Year still on everyone's lips, now is the time where many folks reflect on their experience the year prior. 2017 seemed like a tough one for many, and that includes country singer and occasional actress Carrie Underwood. Underwood shared to the public that she had a recent fall at her home, resulting in a broken wrist. But it turns out there's more to the story, as she also apparently seriously injured her face, resulting in a whopping 40-50 stitches. Considering how much time Underwood spends in front of cameras, this was no doubt a terrifying experience for her.

Carrie Underwood shared the newly revealed information with a post to her fan club (via ET). It turns out that her November fall was a bit more serious than she originally claimed, although she must be doing better now that the singer is willing to go public about her recent surgery. Underwood recalled how the experience changed her, both emotionally and physically, saying:

I honestly don't know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn't much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way. I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way. And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.

Carrie Underwood has really been battling a private struggle in the past few months. But the "Before He Cheats" singer does seem to have a good attitude about the future, and seems almost comfortable enough to appear on camera. It's not clear where this may occur, but her many fans will be supporting her when it comes.

News of Carrie Underwood's facial injuries will explain her current status on social media platforms like Instagram. Underwood has been posting mostly images of her family recently, as well as throwback photos of herself on the road. Her most recent selfie features Underwood almost completely covered by a scarf, with the exception being her beautiful eyes. Check it out below.

Fingers crossed that Carrie Underwood has a speedy recovery, and that she feels confident enough to step back into the public eye soon. Underwood is known for her big gigs like hosting the Country Music Awards or leading TV musical The Sound of Music Live!, so this hiatus is probably a bit frustrating for her as well. But Underwood has grown and learned, and is now attempting to share a positive message with her many fans. It's reasons like this that she's truly an American Idol.
