The Marvel Cinematic Universe is always growing and expanding, and that’s certainly true with the start of Phase Four. With franchise favorites like Iron Man and Captain America having reached their conclusion, more new characters are being introduced. Fans are hoping to see the Fantastic Four finally join the MCU, and Kevin Feige recently teased potentially casting the team of heroes.

When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and its properties, comic book fans hoped this would mean beloved characters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four could join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans have debated who could play the latter heroes, and Kevin Feige was recently asked about the process of finding actors for Human Torch and The Thing. The architect of the MCU shared his thoughts, saying:

I think the MCU is a beautiful combination of both (established actors and new faces). I think you look no further than Simu in Shang-Chi, like Chris Hemsworth, like Tom Hiddleston, like Tom Holland, an actor that hadn't been seen by a tremendous amount of people before, or you have a Benedict stepping into Doctor Strange or Christian Bale stepping into Gor in our Thor film. It is always a beautiful combination of both, and it really is about the search for the best actor for the job whether that actor is known to the world yet or not.

Well, I’m intrigued. It looks like Kevin Feige has indeed been thinking about which quartet of actors will eventually inhabit the Fantastic Four. And it looks like the MCU is considering both established names and newcomers when creating this new corner of the franchise. Now the question is: when will the team actually arrive on the big screen?

Kevin Feige’s comments to ComicBook come from a conversation about the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. But since Feige is also looking at the big picture of the entire MCU, eventually the conversation turned to the future introduction of those beloved characters. After all, fans can’t wait to see the Fantastic Four join the property and crossover with the likes of The Avengers.

Kevin Feige didn’t offer any names when speaking about the Fantastic Four, but the internet definitely has thoughts. A number of actors have been offered online, with the most popular being Emily Blunt and John Krasinski as The Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic. Blunt herself seems mostly disinterested, so it should be interesting to see how casting ultimately shakes out.

In his comments, Kevin Feige mentions Tom Holland as a relatively unknown actor before becoming a household name as Spider-Man in the MCU. Since the Fantastic Four required a handful of newcomers, it seems logical that the studio might pick a lesser known performer for a character like Johnny Storm aka Human Torch. Let’s just hope casting happens sooner rather than later.

The next installment in the MCU is Shang-Chi on September 3rd. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
