The film industry is in an interesting place right now, with studios finally releasing big blockbusters as moviegoers start to return to theaters. Actors like Tom Cruise have shared their experience back at the movies, and he’s not the only one. Now Aquaman star Amber Heard is the latest celeb to return to theaters (specifically seeing a play in the West End) while also being back at work as Mera.

Production for James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently underway, with Amber Heard set to once again reprise her role as Mera. She recently returned to her DCEU character for reshoots on Zack Snyder’s Justice League. As movie theaters reopened, so have theatrical venues. And Heard celebrated this on social media, posting:

And just like that, the world feels a little bit more normal. And while seemingly in the U.K. to work on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it looks like Amber Heard has also taken the time to enjoy some live theater in the West End. Because movies aren’t the only theatrical experience that can finally bring new entertainment to audiences.

The above image comes to us from Amber Heard’s personal Instagram account. The 35 year-old actress shared herself outside the West End production 2:22 A Ghost Story. As the caption reads, Heard shared “What a great feeling to be back in a theatre again.” This is also true for movie theaters, as highly anticipated projects like Black Widow and A Quiet Place Part II were finally released to the masses.

DC fans can re-watch Amber Heard’s tenure as Mera so far on HBO Max. You can use this link to sign up for the streaming service.

Of course, Amber Heard’s schedule will presumably get busier the deeper into photography Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom gets. Heard has been sharing some videos as she trains for her latest return to the DC Extended Universe opposite Jason Momoa. The sequel’s contents are being kept under wraps, but Mera will likely have a major presence.

It’s been interesting to see how new movies have performed at the box office, especially with so many new blockbusters also available from the comfort of our own homes. DC’s The Suicide Squad definitely didn’t perform as well as it could have pre-pandemic. Luckily for Amber Heard and the company of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, that mysterious project is expected to arrive exclusively in theaters.

Given Mera’s expanded role in the Snyder Cut, there’s more interest in Amber Heard’s signature DC character than ever before. And while some moviegoers campaigned to see Heard replaced in Aquaman 2, others are hoping Zack Snyder makes a sequel to Justice League to explore the Knightmare version of that heroine.

Aquaman’s sequel is currently set to arrive in theaters on December 16th, 2022. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
