Samuel L. Jackson Confirms He's Shooting The Marvels With New Post

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in Avengers: Infinity War

When 2019’s Captain Marvel wound the Marvel Cinematic Universe clock back to 1995, it gave us the opportunity to see a two-eyed Nick Fury take his first step into the world of superheroes due to a chance meeting with Carol Danvers. Since then, we’ve reunited with the present day Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and following a tease of his character’s next film appearance, Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed that he is indeed currently shooting The Marvels.

Earlier this week, Samuel L. Jackson shared a picture of the prosthetic facial hair he dons to play Nick Fury, as well as another picture of him wearing a shirt showing Nick Fury’s hand holding the pager used to contact Captain Marvel, as shown in Avengers: Infinity War’s post-credits scene. It’s understandable this led fans to believe Jackson was teasing his participation in The Marvels, and now we know for a fact that’s what he’s working on thanks to one of the hashtags in the below Instagram post.

Looking at the picture alone won’t clue you in on Samuel L. Jackson’s latest Marvel foray, as he simply wants people to see he’s rocking a cool Pulp Fiction shirt displaying his character from that Quentin Tarantino flick, Jules Winnfield. But since he included #themarvels in the post, now we know that will be Nick Fury’s 12th appearance, stretching all the way back to when the MCU began with Iron Man. It’s unclear what’s in store for Nick Fury in The Marvels; when we last saw him in Spider-Man: Far From Home, he was on vacation aboard a Skrull spaceship.

Along with The Marvels, Samuel L. Jackson is reprising Nick Fury for the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which will see the character sharing screen time again with Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, who shapeshifted himself to look like Fury on Earth during Spider-Man: Far From Home while the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. was out in space (Soren, Talos’ wife, disguised herself as Maria Hill). The WandaVision series finale also teased Fury’s future plans when Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau was visited by a Skrull who told her that a friend of her mother’s wanted to meet with her up in outer space. It was announced back in December 2020 that Parris will co-lead The Marvels with Brie Larson and Iman Vellani, with the latter soon debuting as Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, in her own Disney+ series.

The Marvels will also star Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon in undisclosed roles, although Ashton will reportedly be playing a villain. Behind the scenes, Candyman’s Nia DaCosta is directing The Marvels off a script written by WandaVision’s Megan McDonnell. For those of you who can’t get enough Nick Fury in the meantime, Jackson has also lent his voice to Disney+’s What If… ? animated series, which explores what happens if major MCU moments unfolded differently.

The Marvels arrives in theaters on November 11, 2022, so keep checking back with CinemaBlend for updates on its progress and news concerning other upcoming Marvel movies.
