And the award for the actor with the most unrecognizable transformations goes to… Jared Leto! Between his Suicide Squad Joker, his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club and his unreal 65-pound weight gain for Chapter 27 back in 2007, fans are beginning to think that the actor only takes roles that will have us doing a double take. And that trend continues with his role in House of Gucci.
Ridley Scott has directed a movie about the Gucci family starring Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons as Gucci brothers Aldo and Rodolfo Gucci, with Jared Leto and Adam Driver playing their sons, Paolo and Maurizio Gucci, respectively. Lady Gaga will play Maurizio’s ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, who was convicted of ordering Maurizio to be murdered. Ahead of the film’s fall release, a first look of the movie was revealed through character posters, and fans can’t get enough of Leto’s latest transformation:
Yes, that’s him. Jared Leto has once again gone through a full-fledged metamorphosis for a Hollywood role thanks to some serious prosthetics. The actor’s face is completely in plaster as he is pictured with a larger nose, a mustache and receding hairline. The only remnant of his look is his piercing blue eyes, and even then we’re still questioning if it's really Leto.
As soon as the images were released online, fans took to social media to comment on Jared Leto’s incessant movie transformations. They called back to a range of his most popular roles, including his work in The Little Things earlier this year and his upcoming turn to Marvel for Morbius.
What’s interesting is Jared Leto is a good looking guy, and it’s not like he couldn’t get roles if he didn’t always cover up and switch up his appearance. But year after year, we are met with a new Leto transformation. This one reminded one Twitter user of Arrested Development’s Jeffrey Tambor.
But not everyone is impressed with Jared Leto as the actor’s performance in House of Gucci comes our way this November. Another person took to social media to share their thoughts about being bored with Hollywood placing a big transformation like this on a pedestal:
How many times has a role like this one become a buzzy Oscar role? You already know the Academy is adding House of Gucci to its shortlist since it checks off the dramatic biopic box with well-respected actors at its forefront. As someone pointed out, another actor who actually looks like this without the prosthetics could have taken up the role too.
At the end of the day, this House of Gucci transformation has us really intrigued about how Jared Leto’s performance will be as Paolo Gucci under all that makeup. The movie based on true events and a 2001 book with the same title is set to come out on November 24, among a number of exciting upcoming 2021 movies coming our way.
