Filmmaker James Gunn became a household name thanks to his work in the comic book genre, specifically Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The movies’ bonkers tone really resonated with audiences, so moviegoers were thrilled to learn he’d be pivoting to DC for The Suicide Squad. But will Gunn do another DCEU movie in the future? Here’s the latest.

Given his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn seems like the perfect filmmaker to tackle The Suicide Squad. After all, he’s got experience with adapting a comic book movie based on a scrappy group of underdogs. And while that R-rated romp is nearly upon us, one fan asked if Gunn has any ideas for future DC projects. His response reads,

Well, this is exciting. Because while first James Gunn will focus on bringing John Cena’s Peacemaker series to HBO Max, it seems the visionary director has more potential DC ideas brewing. We’ll just have to see which characters ultimately survive The Suicide Squad.

James Gunn teased his possible future in the DCEU over on his personal Twitter account. Gunn is extremely active on social media, and is constantly fielding questions from fans about both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Suicide Squad. And while he’s got his hands full with a number of projects, fans will be thrilled to learn that Gunn might have more DC stories up his sleeve.

The Suicide Squad will be hitting HBO Max at the same time as theaters. You can use this link to sign up for the streaming service.

James Gunn’s response was appropriately cryptic, as there’s no guarantee of the filmmaker doing another DC project after The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. Still, one has to wonder what his mind is cooking up. Could it be another project focused on Task Force X, or something else altogether? When it comes to Gunn, the possibilities are truly endless.

We are just days away from the release of The Suicide Squad, and anticipation for James Gunn’s DC debut is at a fever pitch. The early reception has been glowing, and Margot Robbie recently went so far as to call it one of the best comic book movies of all time. Add in the R-rating, and it seems like Gunn could take the story anywhere, and kill off just about anyone.

The Suicide Squad will arrive in theaters on August 6th. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
