Lisa Banes stands staring forcefully in a ballroom in Gone Girl.

10 days ago, actress Lisa Banes was involved in a hit and run accident, during a street crossing. Struck by either a scooter or a motorcycle, the Gone Girl actor was hospitalized in critical condition, with her friends and family no doubt hoping she would recover. Sadly, it has been recently reported that Ms. Banes has died as a result of her injuries, at the age of 65.

Representatives for the New York Police Department confirmed Lisa Banes’ death, as reported by Yahoo. Further details indicate that the fatal accident happened, just as Banes was making her way to the Juilliard School for a visit, at which point she was hit while crossing the street. The driver did not stop, and no arrests have been made in connection to the matter. Lisa Banes is survived by her wife, Kathryn Kranhold, who posted the following tribute on her social media account:

Born on July 9, 1955, Lisa Banes’ first credited screen appearance was in the 1984 film The Hotel New Hampshire. From that point, she would rack up credits in films like the Tom Cruise drama Cocktail, as well as Young Guns, with her most recent movie being credited as Gore Verbinski’s mindbender A Cure For Wellness. But one of her most notable performances was that of Marybeth Elliot, the concerned mother to Rosamund Pike’s “Amazing” Amy Elliot, in David Fincher’s dark thriller Gone Girl. Bane’s legacy wasn’t limited to the world of cinema though, as she also branched out into the worlds of the stage, as well as television.

Equally as impressive as her film credits, Lisa Banes appeared on series such as Murder She Wrote, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, NCIS, and ABC’s Once Upon A Time. One of the future performances the world will have to look forward to from Banes’ posthumous credits is a guest spot on Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville, which is currently in production on its third season. MacFarlane provided a tribute of his own after working with Lisa Banes on a couple of those upcoming episodes, which reads as follows:

The circumstances of Lisa Banes’ untimely death only make its occurrence that much sadder. An actor who could tackle any format, with roles spanning many genres, her talents were a vast and always welcome charm to wherever she would pop up next. It’s because of this, and her own personal warmth, that Ms. Banes’ legacy, though tragically cut short, will continue to endure with fans far and wide. We here at CinemaBlend would like to extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Lisa Banes, in this unexpected time of tragedy.
