Halloween Kills Star Teases The ‘Nastiest’ Movie In The Franchise

The last few years have brought a renaissance for the horror genre, which is showing no signs of slowing down. Many of the modern classics have come courtesy of Blumhouse Productions, and now the horror house has turned its focus on the classics. 2018's Halloween was a massive critical and box office success, with two more movies ordered in order to create a new trilogy. First up is Halloween Kills, David Gordon Green's second installment in the beloved franchise. And it might be some of of Michael's most brutal kills.

Halloween Kills will do a deep dive into the town of Haddonfield, with plenty of returning characters from John Carpenter's original Halloween set to appear. Actor Robert Longstreet will be playing Lonnie Elam, Tommy Doyle's childhood bully from the original. Longstreet recently teased the upcoming sequel's contents, saying:

I don’t think I can say anything about Halloween Kills except it might be the nastiest of all of them. It has some terrifying scenes in it.

Well, that's ominous. Because while the last Halloween movie set Michael Myers on an rampage through the town, Halloween Kills will be especially nasty. At least, according to one member of the ensemble cast.

Robert Longstreet's comments to Bloody Flicks will excite hardcore horror fans, who can't wait to watch The Shape tear through victims with his signature butcher knife. Michael Myers used a variety of weapons and means to kill people in 2018's Halloween, with a body count that eclipsed John Carpenter's original. The long shot of him randomly killing and sparing Haddonfield residents was one of the film's strongest sequences. So clearly the sequel will have more chilling surprises.

David Gordon Green and writer Danny McBride are huge fans of the original Halloween, which helped create the slasher subgenre in modern filmmaking. As such, they approached 2018's Halloween with care, wanting to evoke the same tension as John Carpenter's movie. Carpenter himself returned to write the movie script, and provide some advice to the filmmakers who were bringing the franchise to modern audiences.

Michael's long awaited escape showed that age hadn't slowed him down, as he killed anyone who got in the way of his path to Laurie Strode. The three generations of Strode women were able to get the better of The Shape during Halloween's third act, trapping him in Laurie's basement before setting the place ablaze. But it looks like Michael ultimately survived, and no one is safe within the town.

Jamie Lee Curtis has teased that Halloween Kills unpacks the events of John Carpenter's 1978 original, and the cast announcements surely supports that. Actors Kyle Richards, Charles Cyphers, and Nancy Stephens are all reprising their roles from the OG Halloween. And new actors have been brought in to play characters Lonnie Elam and Tommy Doyle.

Halloween Kills will arrive in theaters on October 16th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies. And our 2020 release list to look ahead toward the New Year.
