When James Gunn was fired by Disney last July, the return of the Guardians of the Galaxy was looking grim. The studio cut ties with the writer/director after some controversial tweets of his past cycled back into conversation. But, after an outcry from the entire cast and fans asking for him to be reinstated, Gunn is now back on board for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the franchise’s Nebula star, Karen Gillan, has now shared her impressions of the script:

I can say that I’ve read it and it’s amazing. We’re all really excited that James is back to complete the trilogy because it wouldn’t have felt right without him. It’s a wonderful, wonderful script.

Karen Gillan’s words are enough to get even Nebula to crack a smile! The actress breaks her silence on the delayed project with some vote of confidence about what’s to come from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! She is feeling great about James Gunn’s script and the creative’s involvement back on the film.

It’s safe to say that fans would not have been as interested in the trilogy closer if James Gunn wasn’t rehired. He’s been a major element to the making of and thus the success of the otherworldly Marvel property. He had already finished the script to the third movie and was prepping production when he was initially fired.

After James Gunn was let go from the Disney production, he was approached by its rival Warner Bros to write and direct a fresh take on the Suicide Squad. The filmmaker signed on to the DC property and he’s currently working on The Suicide Squad ahead of its 2021 release date, along with now having plans to jump back in for Guardians 3.

Since the stacked Marvel slate has been announced up until the end of 2021, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn’t expected to be released until 2022. The movie may begin rolling its cameras as early as next year. Considering it sounds like James Gunn has finished the script and has a core cast of actors already eager and ready to return, he may be able to easily jump from one production to the other.

Karen Gillan is coming off the massive success of Avengers: Endgame over summer, with the rest of the Guardians cast. Nebula and Rocket were the only remaining members of the team who survived the Snap. Gillan’s character had a key role in Endgame, as her character’s cybernetic parts connected Thanos of the past to the Avengers’ time heist to foil his future plans.

Karen Gillan also told Yahoo how she didn’t see her character reaching such importance in the MCU when she first signed on. The actress originally only had eight days of filming for the character and Nebula was supposed to die in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

You can see Karen Gillan next in the upcoming comedy action flick Jumanji: The Next Level. The movie will go up against Star Wars when it hits theaters on December 13.
