Jumanji: The Next Level's Final Trailer Says Goodbye To The Jungle

Kevin hart and the rock in Jumanji: The Next Level

The name Jumanji has been synonyms with a jungle landscape full of dangerous animals. However, with a name like The Next Level it seemed likely that the new Jumanji was movie was going to try something different, and with the release of the film's new trailer, we're getting our first looks at some new landscapes.

Some of the images that we had seen of the production of Jumanji: The Next Level had seemed to indicate that we could be seeing the game go to both a desert as well as some snowy mountains, and now you can see just that will look like in the trailer below.

We do see some of the traditional Jumanji look here. The game appears to start in more or less the same place as it did last time, and we see Karen Gillan's Ruby Roundhouse swinging from ropes in the jungle. It seems even the characters don't understand how they're going to end up in the desert, so it could be that that the location change is related to the fact that the damaged game cartridge appears to be having some problems.

Of course, there's a lot more that's changing in Jumanji: The Next Level than just the landscape. We had seen previously that the new characters played by Danny DeVito and Danny Glover would be joining the game, played by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart this time around. However, it seems that the glitches in the Jumanji video game are actually going to cause character personalities to jump from body to body, so we're looking at a lot more variety this time around.

The trailer also sees the return of Nick Jonas' character from the last movie. Also, one of the characters the first trailer saw was missing apparently returns, as Bethany entered the game as a horse. Although, it appears that when the game goes buggy, she gets to be Jack Black again. Needless to say, this movie is getting weird.

It looks like a lot of silly fun, but that's what Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was in the end, and that movie ended up being an enormous hit for Sony. It ended up grossing just short of $1 billion worldwide. It spent an impressive five, non-consecutive, weekends at number one at the box office and while it opened in December, it remained in the domestic top ten until March.

The sequel will follow suit, opening in mid-December, up against the next chapter of the new Star Wars movie. Two years ago, that seemed lice a recipe for disaster, but now it looks like Jumanji: The Next Level might be setting itself up for the best possible success. This time the movie will also get a full weekend to bring in some box office before Star Wars arrives as Jumanji: The Next Level is set to open December 13.
