Tom Holland Says Mark Ruffalo Is Worse About Marvel Spoilers

Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner in Avengers: Endgame

While Marvel Studios is generally good with ensuring that its actors don’t spoil major plot points, there have been two repeat offenders when it comes to accidentally revealing information that’s supposed to be kept on the down low: Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo. However, if you ask Holland, it’s Ruffalo who’s more guilty when it comes to this, with the Spider-Man actor saying:

I’ve spoiled a few things, but Mark Ruffalo said that everybody dies at the end of Infinity War. But the thing is, no one took him seriously. Like if I had said that, everyone would be like, ‘yeah, it probably happens, yeah.’ I mean, Mark live-streamed the first 20 minutes of Thor [Ragnarok] by accident. I didn’t do that, so I have to say Mark is.

Tom Holland recently attended the FanX convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, and during his panel (via Comicbook.com), he was asked by an audience member about who was the biggest spoiler, him or Mark Ruffalo. Holland smiled and answered that he hasn’t spoiled anything, and when another person in attendance countered that claim, he delivered the above response. As he sees it, Mark Ruffalo’s spoilers have been a way bigger deal than what Holland’s accidentally revealed.

It’s true, the Hulk actor has had some doozies over the last several years, from accidentally live-streaming the opening scene of Thor: Ragnarok at the world premiere (though because his phone was in his pocket, you could only hear what was happening) to spoiling the ending of Avengers: Infinity War during a TV interview to even dropping a tidbit about Captain America’s fate in Avengers: Endgame. Try as Mark Ruffalo may to stay quiet, those loose lips just won’t quit, though at least he’s gotten some popularity out of it.

That said, Tom Holland also has his fair share of slip-ups, including that time he indirectly spoiled Spider-Man’s Avengers: Infinity War fate to an audience about to watch the movie for the first time. Holland’s habit of spoiling even extends outside of the MCU, as he learned about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s plot from director J.A. Bayona and gave Chris Pratt a beat-for-beat rundown of the sequel before Pratt had even read the script.

So while it’s debatable whether Mark Ruffalo or Tom Holland is the bigger spoiler, Holland should definitely not discount all the secrets he’s spilled during his tenure as Spider-Man, which kicked off with 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. That said, we don’t have to worry about Holland spoiling anything else about the MCU going forward.

While it remains to be seen when Mark Ruffalo will reprise Hulk (the She-Hulk Disney+ series is a reasonable bet), due to Disney and Sony parting ways on all things Spider-Man, Tom Holland will continue playing the Web-Slinger, but he won’t be part of this shared universe anymore. That said, I imagine Sony won’t be any less strict towards Holland than Marvel was about ensuring the actor doesn’t spoil things, especially if his version of Spidey joins Sony’s Marvel universe, which includes Venom, Morbius and many more.
