See Fast And Furious 9's Charlize Theron Ditch The Dreads For Trendy Short Cut

Charlize Theron Cipher in Fate of the Furious

One of the great joys of the Fast and Furious franchise is the way in which the cast grows with each new installment, and then has new characters actually stick around for future chapters. Charlize Theron is a perfect example, as she made her debut as Cipher in F. Gary Gray's The Fate Of The Furious, and now she's set to make her return in Justin Lin's untitled Fast And Furious 9.

As of right now we know very little about the role she plays in the story of the upcoming blockbuster, but what we do know is that she will be rocking a totally new look for the follow-up story. You can check out Cipher's new style, replacing her dreads with a trendy short cut, below, courtesy of Charlize Theron's personal Twitter account.

Fans will remember Cipher as the primary antagonist of The Fate Of The Furious - specifically as a cyber-terrorist who does her level best to try and kickstart a nuclear war. That plan wound up failing, but despite the best efforts of Jason Statham's Deckhard Shaw she still managed to escape from her flying base via parachute. She was left on the run at the end of that story, and apparently some of her time has been spent getting a new haircut.

While Cipher rocked some long braids during the events of the last film, this time around she won't have to worry about her locks being a distraction around her shoulders or occasionally swinging into her face. In Fast and Furious 9 she'll be rocking a much more sensible look, and paired with that piercing stare she looks ready for action.

But what will she be doing in the actual film? As mentioned earlier, we really don't know - but that's partially an extension of the fact that we really know very little about the plot of Fast and Furious 9 in general. Given the franchise's history, it's not entirely impossible to believe that Cipher will somehow find herself working for the good guys in this story, but she also just as easily could be trying to form an alliance with whoever the new villain is.

Charlize Theron is part of a massive ensemble in Fast & Furious 9, with other returning stars including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, and Helen Mirren. New addtions include both Michael Rooker, Francis Ngannou, and John Cena, and we won't have too much longer to wait until we see how they fit into the story.

While the blockbuster may still be in production, it's also still scheduled to come out in about seven months, with Universal Pictures set to have the film hit theaters on April 10, 2020. That means that a trailer probably isn't too far off, so stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for that, as well as all the updates you'll want to know about from the making of the movie.
