Watch Chris Hemsworth Become Bro Thor For Avengers: Endgame

Bro Thor talking to Tony

Following its record-breaking theatrical release, Avengers: Endgame is now officially available on DVD and Blu-ray. The Russo Brothers' blockbuster may have hit theaters back in April, but the conversation surrounding its contents hasn't slowed in the following months. One of the most discussed aspects about Endgame was related to Thor's story, and his transformation into Bro Thor. Now we can see how Chris Hemsworth became the character on set.

Following The Snap and Thanos' decapitation, the God of Thunder fell into a deep depression. Thor turned to alcoholism as a result, and Endgame's five-year time jump revealed the character had a massive physical transformation. He gained weight and let his hair and beard grow out. And now can see Chris Hemsworth in the makeup trailer in an awesome time lapse video. Check it out below.

Well, that's awesome. Bro Thor (as he's been officially named) allowed Chris Hemsworth to take his signature Marvel character to new places. And now we can see the process that it took to transform the super fit actor into the God of Thunder in Avengers: Endgame.

This video comes to us from Instagram, and shows the hair and makeup team applying their craft to Chris Hemsworth in order to make Bro Thor into a reality. The 36 year-old actor shot Infinity War and Endgame back to back, so he didn't have the opportunity to grow out his hair or beard in order to play the OG Avenger. Instead, wigs and prosthetics were needed in order to transform his appearance.

Thor is typically known for his flowing blonde locks, which were unceremoniously chopped off during Stan Lee's Thor: Ragnarok cameo. The God of Thunder went through the events of Avengers: Infinity War with that short look, getting a new eyeball courtesy of Rocket Raccoon. But the five-year time jump allowed the Avenger to regrow his hair, although it was unkept and nearly dreadlocked due to lack of care.

In order to make this happen, the hair department had to personally braid the wig atop Chris Hemsworth's head. The above video shows the team at work, while the actor prepared to film his scenes for the fourth Avengers flick. This includes texting and using his phone, but also seemingly studying his lines via an iPad.

Thor's beard also needed some serious attention, and the team is shown working on making it as ratty and long as possible. Thor typically keeps his facial hair short, but his depression after decapitation Thanos caused him to abandon all forms of grooming and exercise. The character maintained that long beard throughout the runtime of Avengers: Endgame, although it was magically braided when he took up Stormbreaker to fight Thanos again in the ruins of the Avengers facility.

Chris Hemsworth campaigned for Thor to remain at his bro state throughout Endgame, wearing a prosthetic fat suit throughout filming. It should be interesting to see how this is addressed in fourth movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. There's also the possibility that he'll have a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as he has some serious chemistry with the motley crew of cosmic heroes.

Avengers: Endgame is available for home purchase now, and Thor: Love and Thunder is currently set to arrive in theaters on November 5, 2021. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
