Cate Blanchett Picks Her Favorite Marvel Movie, And It Isn’t Thor: Ragnarok

Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

There's a lot to love in Marvel movies, and a lot of Marvel movies to love. At this point, it seems like every actor in Hollywood, save Keanu Reeves, is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I for one have certainly wondered from time to time how many of the actors who haven't had their careers taken over by the MCU actually play close attention to it. It turns out that Cate Blanchett is one star that does.

Blanchett played Hela in Thor:Ragnarok, but she's also seen all the other Marvel movies, if only thanks to her kids, but she knows them well enough to know that her favorite in the series wasn't her own movie, but rather Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.

I'm so looking forward to seeing [Thor: Love And Thunder], because I absolutely loved seeing them all with my kids. But I really, really loved Captain Marvel. No offense, Taika, but it was probably my favorite.

Cate Blanchett tells ET that she really excited for Natalie Portman and the news that she'll be taking on the mantle of Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. It seems that she really loves the fact that more women are taking on positions of power within the MCU stories, which may be why Captain Marvel is her favorite movie so far.

She's certainly not alone. Captain Marvel made a billion dollars so it's also a favorite movie of a lot of other people.

It wouldn't have been that crazy if Cate Blanchett had said that Thor: Ragnarok was her favorite movie. Beyond the simple fact that she's in it, it also was the first Marvel movie to have a woman as the primary villain, which was still a step forward for Marvel Studios.

Could we see the poular MCU villain face off against the new Thor? Blanchett either has no clue, or she's playing coy. Either is possible.

It seems likely that, for anybody who loves to see women taking their place alongside the men of the MCU, the forthcoming slateof films  has a lot to look forward to. Beyond the next MCU movie, Black Widow, we'll see The Eternals, which has an incredibly inclusive and diverse cast. Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch will have an important part to play in the next Doctor Strange movie, and she'll also co-headline her own Disney+ series. The upcoming Hawkeye series will see the archer pass his bow onto a woman, and then of course there's Natalie Portman's return to the MCU as The Mighty Thor.

And then on top of that, there's the fact that we know that Captain Marvel 2 is a movie that is coming. It's not part of the upcoming Phase 4, but Kevin Feige did confirm at SDCC that it is coming. Perhaps it will become Cate Blanchett's new favorite.
