Watch Chris Hemsworth Get Into His Fat Suit For Avengers: Endgame

Thor in Endgame

Avengers: Endgame arrived in theaters back in April, exceeding all expectations set by Infinity War. The blockbuster was both visually stimulating and character-driven, packing countless plot twists along the way. One of these unexpected twists was Thor's physical transformation following the time jump. The God of Thunder packed on the pounds in his depression, and his weight was a visual reminder of the character's mental state in the wake of Thanos' original death.

Thor's new look quickly went viral following Endgame's release, although there were some naysayers who found it a case of body shaming. Chris Hemsworth actually found the change to be helpful with his character, and wearing a prosthetic suit and weighting his arms and ankles to alter the character's physicality. Now we can see Hemsworth getting into the suit, check it out below.

That thing is no joke. The suit Chris Hemsworth had to wear was about 70 pounds, which couldn't have been an easy way to work. But he found it "liberating" something that really shone through in his performance.

The above video shows what it was like for Chris Hemsworth to get into the suit. While he didn't need to record the entire movie with the prosthesis, there were plenty of scenes were the character's body was on display. Most notably, when Rocket and Banner travel to New Asgard to recruit Thor to join their new team and found Bro Thor in his full Fornite glory. The suit is remarkably life like, even when it's being put on the ultra fit actor.

Aside from showing off Thor's prosthetic suit, this new clip also highlighted the various other changes made to Thor's new appearance for Avengers: Endgame. There was a new dread-filled wig and unkept beard, and it turns out that Chris Hemworth actually wore some type of piece in this mouth to puff out his cheeks. This helped even the way he spoke change, further pivoting Thor's character for the majority of the blockbuster.

In the video, co-stars like Paul Rudd and Tessa Thompson spoke to Chris Hemsworth as an actor, and how excited the Australian performer was to put a twist on his signature Marvel hero. Prior to Endgame, Hemsworth had already played the God of Thunder through seven movies, including his brief cameo in Doctor Strange. And rather than simply doing more of the same in The Russo Brothers' second blockbuster, he was able to play an almost entirely different character.

Chris Hemsworth clearly enjoyed the challenge to alter his character, and Thor had a very emotional arc throughout Endgame's runtime. His self-loathing and alcoholism were tackled during the Time Heist, thanks to a visit with his mother Frigga. And after the battle, he made Valkyrie the King of New Asgard, and departed Earth with the Guardians to find himself.
