Another Rocky Movie Is In The Works, And Sylvester Stallone Already Knows The Plot

Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa in Creed II

Sylvester Stallone may have reprised Rocky Balboa in the Creed movies, but it’s been 13 years since the iconic character led his own movie. However, it looks like the boxer may finally get to be the main star of the franchise again, as Stallone is preparing to deliver the next Rocky movie.

When asked if he’d reappear as Rocky on the big screen someday, Sylvester Stallone said there’s a “good chance that Rocky may ride again.” As for what the premise of the next story would be, Stallone said:

Rocky meets a young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border. It’s very, very timely.

Shortly after the release of Creed II, Sylvester Stallone said that he was done playing Rocky Balboa. However, back in May he reversed course, dropping the first tidbits about what he had cooking up for the aged boxer. Playin a character in eight movies across four decades is an impressive run for any actor, but Stallone is now looking to make it nine movies.

After Sylvester Stallone divulged the basic premise of this new Rocky movie, where the character once again finds himself training a young fighter, Variety asked if this meant the story would touch on the immigration issues in the U.S. that are headline news. Stallone responded:

Yes. Do you tell someone that you just met in the street who’s struggling and homeless to get out, or do you take him in? If you take him in, you’re in trouble.

As for when this Rocky movie will happen, nothing’s on the calendar just yet, but Sylvester Stallone said that “they want to go tomorrow,” referring to producer Irvin Winkler’s production company and MGM, which co-owns the Rocky franchise (Stallone has zero ownership). Winkler mentioned that negotiations are underway for Stallone to write and star in the movie.

After Adonis Creed beat Viktor Drago at the end of Creed II, Rocky declined to join Adonis, Bianca and Little Duke in the ring to celebrate, telling his protege that it was his time and was content to watch from the sidelines. Rocky then traveled to Vancouver to reconnect with his estranged son, Robert, and meet his grandson Logan for the first time.

Although Creed III hasn’t been officially announced yet, given that Creed II was also critically and commercially successful, one would imagine a threequel is at least being discussed. However, since Sylvester Stallone is looking to have Rocky stand center stage again, presumably that means he wouldn’t appear in Creed III, but that remains to be verified.
