Zack Snyder Seemingly Gives Robert Pattinson's Batman His Approval

Zack Snyder and Robert Pattinson

The next Batman film officially has its Bruce Wayne in actor Robert Pattinson and naturally, people have opinions about the casting. One of those people is the man who helped bring the last Batman to the big screen, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League director Zack Snyder. The filmmaker seemingly gave Robert Pattinson’s Batman his approval on Vero. Take a look:

Zack Snyder likes Battinson on Vero

We’ll have to wait to see if Zack Snyder has something specific to say on the matter, but by liking the Vero post on the casting of “Battinson” he seems to be giving Robert Pattinson’s Batman his approval. It’s not as definitive as posting or saying something about the casting directly, but nobody forced Zack Snyder to like this news and he certainly knew that by doing so, he would be seen as giving his thumbs up.

Zack Snyder and Robert Pattinson have never worked together, but perhaps Snyder is familiar with the actor’s performances and sees the same Dark Knight potential in him that Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves presumably saw. And although Zack Snyder won’t be directing Robert Pattinson’s Batman, his endorsement would still mean a lot considering that he was the guy to last bring a new version of the Caped Crusader to the big screen.

That last version of the Caped Crusader was Ben Affleck’s Batman who debuted in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Just like Robert Pattinson is now facing intense scrutiny for his casting, including petitions to remove him from the role, Ben Affleck’s casting was met with major backlash when it was announced.

Zack Snyder believed in him though and Ben Affleck wound up being a better Bruce Wayne/Batman than many people imagined and a highlight of his time in the DCEU. So Zack Snyder knows a little something about casting a Batman that might seem like an out of left field choice, and thus his liking of Battinson carries some weight. It should also serve as a reminder that you can’t really judge casting until you see the movie.

It can’t be easy for Zack Snyder to see someone else taking over for Batman either and moving on from his vision for the universe, after his own somewhat unceremonious departure from the DCEU. When Ben Affleck officially left the Batman role, Zack Snyder posted a heartfelt tribute to the man he called the “Best Batman ever.”

Given the enduring calls for Warner Bros. to release The Snyder Cut of Justice League, a lot of fans still really care about Zack Snyder’s take and opinion on the world of DC characters. And while I think many would have liked to see Ben Affleck get at least one solo film as Batman, and that will be an eternal superhero movie ‘What if?’ question, seeing the character move on with Zack Snyder’s blessing, if that’s what this is, is cool to see.

While we will certainly be speculating and debating about this casting until June 25, 2021 when The Batman, if that winds up being the official title, is released. For movies arriving in theaters a little sooner, check out our 2019 Release Schedule.
