The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a well-oiled machine, with over a decade of filmmaking behind its tenure in theaters. The MCU as we knew it ended with Avengers: Endgame, and the studio has been keeping the plans for the future under wraps. But with so many OG Avengers reaching the end of their contacts, smart money says new heroes will be joining the fray in the next slate of movies.
One Marvel hero who has a ton of buzz around her is Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. The Jersey City native is the first Muslim superhero to headline her own comic, and quite a few film professionals have expressed their interest in developing the story for the MCU. This includes The Office alum Mindy Kaling, who recently revealed she's had talks with Marvel Studios about Ms. Marvel's potential future. As she put it:
The people I’ve spoken to at Marvel are so excited about the character. I think they’re trying to figure out what to do with it. And I told them I would help in any way. Because I truly love her. But they seemed really interested and I think they will probably do something, now that there’s like this streaming platform with them. But I think they understand there is the excitement, you know. Riz (Ahmed), Me, every Desi actor was very excited.
Well, this is exciting. While Mindy Kaling didn't reveal any concrete plans for Ms. Marvel's inclusion in the MCU, it's clear that there's interest from the studio. And with big names like Mindy Kaling and Riz Ahmed already volunteering to help bring Kamala Khan to life, it seems like only a matter of time before the shapeshifting Inhuman finally comes to life in live-action.
Mindy Kaling might not have signed on to write the Ms. Marvel movie, her comments to MTV News confirm that she has had conversations with some folks at Marvel. That's certainly big news for fans of the character, who were hoping that the plucky young hero would get a life on the big screen. Kaling seems to think it'll happen eventually, even if the project ends up getting life on the Disney+ platform.

In her same conversation with the potential project, Mindy Kaling also revealed who should play Kamala Khan in live-action, suggesting:
You know, I think it might have to be an unknown. It might need to be an unknown, wouldn’t that be exciting?
Exciting, indeed. And also poetic. Kamala Khan has become a popular character because of her naivety and perspective on the Marvel universe. As such, casting an unknown actress to play Ms. Marvel would make a great deal of sense. If the movie ever ends up happening, of course.

Of course, Mindy Kaling isn't the only person talking about bringing Ms. Marvel to the MCU. As she mentioned to MTV, Rogue One and The Night Of standout Riz Ahmed also expressed his interest in working on a potential movie for Kamala Khan. And it seems that Kaling might have had the same type of conversations with other Indian, Pakistani, and/or Bangladeshi actors as well.
Brie Larson has also expressed her interest in Ms. Marvel coming to the MCU, specifically in a Captain Marvel sequel. This would track given the character's comic book origin, and how Carol Danvers has influenced the young hero on the page. But only time will tell exactly what's coming next in Phase Four of the shared universe.
