Sylvester Stallone Shares Terminator 2 Scene With Himself In Arnold's Role, And It's Eerie

In another timeline, maybe Sylvester Stallone did play the Terminator instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger. In this timeline, though, I'm a bit creeped out by seeing Stallone in the "DeepFake" cut of Terminator 2 that has now gone viral. YouTuber Ctrl Shift Face posted his Sly-in-T2 scene on June 2, and it eventually found its way to Sly himself. Stallone shared a short clip from the full scene, adding his own funny caption:

One witty fan replied to Sly's caption with "hasta la pizza baby." Here's the full deepfake scene, using the kind of technology the Terminator movies have been warning us will take over the world:

Unsettling. Sarah Connor would definitely not approve. That video has more than 1.1 million views. I'm not sure about this deepfake technology -- it could certainly be used for more evil than just harmless movie videos -- but Sylvester Stallone seemed to get a kick out of it.

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are old friends and worked together a few times, including Escape Plan and The Expendables movies. In fact, Arnold said in 2017 that he loved the first two movies but he wouldn't be in The Expendables 4 without Stallone (and without a better role for himself).

In theory, though, imagine how action movie history would be different if Arnold and Sly switched roles. What if Arnold Schwarzenegger was Rocky and Rambo, and Sylvester Stallone was the Terminator and Conan the Barbarian?

Both Arnold and Sly have new movies from their classic franchises coming out this year. Sylvester Stallone may or may not really be done with Rocky, but he has Rambo V: Last Blood opening September 20. Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning for Terminator: Dark Fate this November 1.

Terminator: Dark Fate is the sixth movie in the franchise, but it's a direct sequel to James Cameron's The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The filmmakers are pretending the subsequent movies happened in a different timeline. So maybe we can imagine Sly made the whole Terminator franchise himself in still another timeline. (This is starting to sound like good fodder for another Black Mirror episode.)
