Red-Band Hellboy Trailer Has Crazy Creatures And Tons Of Action

Hellboy isn't a top tier superhero character when it comes to general popularity, but between Mike Mignola's work and a pair of cult classic films from Guillermo del Toro, the character isn't without his fans. Those fans have been waiting for the new Hellboy reboot film, and as we get closer to it, we now have yet another trailer, and this one is probably going to go over well with those looking forward to a more mature Hellboy movie. This is a red-band trailer so it's NSFW. Check it out.

Where the first trailer mainly focused on introducing us to the new Hellboy, being played by David Harbour, this one gives us a bit more of the story that Hellboy will find himself in. It opens with Hellboy's origin story, which it looks like we'll get once again, but it won't take up too much of the overall story. We're introduced to Ian McShane, and Daniel Dae Kim, and we see Milla Jovovich who will be playing the film's main antagonist, Nimue the Blood Queen.

As with Guillermo del Toro's version of Hellboy, one of the most impressive things here is the creature design. We see Hellboy dismembering a giant with its own weapon. Another massive creature walking through the Thames, and Hellboy himself riding a flaming winged demon through the sky. It all looks pretty cool and what a lot of people will want from a new Hellboy movie.

This is much more what I was expecting when it comes to the new Hellboy. When the project was first announced we were told the movie would be much closer to the character's horror roots, a more dark and violent story. The first trailer, instead, was full of action and humor. While the movie still looked good, it didn't really look like what had been promised.

While I still wouldn't call this a horror reboot based on what I've seen, it's certainly moving more in that direction. The red-band trailer guarantees the film's R-rating. We hear the F-bomb dropped twice, and that means the R-rating is assured. Of course, on top of that, there's quite a bit of blood spouting all over the place. Hellboy puts a hole in somebody's face and makes out while under a shower of blood, which...is just weird. Should I feel like this is a sweet and romantic moment, because all the blood sort of ruins that.

While many would still like to see the third Helboy movie that Guillermo del Toro always wanted to make, this version of the story is looking like it might work out after all. David Harbour looks pretty good and he and Daniel Dae Kim look like they work well together.

We'll get to see the final product when Hellboy comes out in April.
