Mark Hamill Reveals His Favorite Last Jedi Scene

Leia and Luke on Crait

The Star Wars franchise is in a fascinating place right now, as Lucasfilm is taking more risks since being acquired by Disney. In addition to standalone films and the upcoming live-action series on Disney+, Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the most subversive and divisive installment of the franchise thus far. The contents of that sequel are still being discussed today, as the generations of fans will continue reeling until J.J. Abrams brings Episode IX to theaters in December.

The Last Jedi was a big movie for Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, after he was noticeably missing throughout The Force Awakens. While Hamill admits to originally having some issues with Luke's characterization as a jaded and angry man, he recently revealed his favorite part about the movie: his scene with Leia on Crait. A fan recently created some art after the scene, where Hamill revealed his affection for that moment. Check it out.

I'm not crying, you're crying. While Luke and Leia didn't share much screen time in the first two installments of the sequel trilogy, their brief interaction on Crait might be the most touching scene of either of those blockbusters. The siblings give each other some kindness and hope, before Luke departs to face off with Kylo Ren on the salt mining planet.

Mark Hamill's tweet is just the most recent example of the iconic actor speaking directly with Star Wars fans. Hamill is very generous with his social media accounts, and often uses it to connect with moviegoers who grew up on the George Lucas' epic space opera. While moviegoers may have teared up watching Luke and Leia finally share a scene together, the sequence obviously meant even more to the actors involved. And given Carrie Fisher's untimely death after wrapping production, their interaction is all the more significant.

The fan art is definitely something else, as Luke's kiss on his sister's forehead was rendered into a stain glass window. Funny enough, the art is almost a more clear picture of that iconic scene in The Last Jedi. Rian Johnson had the siblings backlit during it, with a lens flare creating an interest contrast between light and dark. As such, the fan art allows the characters' costumes and appearance to be a bit more clear for fans hoping to ugly cry anytime they look at it.

Both Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are set to reprise their roles in J.J. Abrams' Episode IX, which will end the Skywalker Saga forever. But how they'll be used is largely a mystery. Abrams will utilize unused footage from both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi in order to include Leia in the story. As for Luke, smart moneys says he'll be a Force Ghost when he reappears.

Episode IX will answer our questions when it arrives in theaters on December 20th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
