The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been on a serious roll in the past few years, as Phase Three is arguably the most successful set of films in the massive franchise. Every single blockbuster in Phase Three has been a critical and box office success, with The Russo Brothers doing the impossible in Avengers: Infinity War. Following Thanos' finger snap of death, fans are eager to see the surviving Avengers (and Rocket) will fight the Mad Titan and hopefully reverse the affects of his devastating victory.
The good guys are going to need all the help they can get in order to defeat Titan, especially after so many fan favorite characters faded to dust due to Thanos' snap (aka The Decimation). Cue Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, who will finally join the MCU with her 90's origin story Captain Marvel. Fans are eager to see her interact with characters like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, and a new TV spot for Captain Marvel actually features those characters. Check it out.
While Captain Marvel is going to feature plenty of familiar faces, the fandom is eager to see her interact with the biggest stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This new trailer teases that, while also revealing that Carol Danvers will have her own origin story, unique to the ones we'd seen in Phase One with Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Let the anticipation and fan theories begin.
This new Captain Marvel TV Spot is pretty epic, and is an example of the brilliant marketing Marvel Studios is known for. While Captain Marvel has enough going for it to get fans hyped, the blockbuster's connection to Avengers: Endgame adds another level of anticipation and interest from the generations of MCU fans. The studio is usually cued into fan expectations and feedback, so hammering in Carol Danver's upcoming connection to the greater shared universe is a great way to keep moviegoers interested until Captain Marvel finally arrives in a few weeks.
Captain Marvel's entrance into the MCU was teased during the mid-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. The thrilling sequence focused Nick Fury and Maria Hill at the moment Thanos snaps his finger, with the audience seeing the chaotic affects of The Decimation in real-time. Hill and Fury both faded to dust as a result of Thanos' victory, although Samuel L. Jackson's cycloptic hero was able to call Carol Danvers for help with the use of a pager in his final moments. The survivors are going to need help to fill out their ranks, with Captain Marvel's myriad powers no doubt coming into use when Endgame is released.
Brie Larson's character has been teased to be quite a strong personality, so it'll be great to see how she interacts with the surviving characters of the MCU. It's been teased that she's quite similar to Chris Evans' Captain America, believing she knows what's best, and often clashing with those who oppose her. But considering she's been a hero for decades and has a ton of fantastic abilities, you can't fault her confidence.
Captain Marvel may be set years before Tony Stark changed the world in Iron Man, but that doesn't mean she'll be all alone on an island for the project. In fact, there's quite a few familiar faces in the upcoming blockbuster. Her return to Earth will put Carol Danvers in direct contact with a younger (and two eyed) version of Nick Fury, as well as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. favorite Phil Coulson. The origin of Fury's eye injury and the Infinity War beeper should be explained, as well as the mission that put he and Coulson on their path to assembling The Avengers.
But Captain Marvel isn't merely set on Earth, as the project will also focus on the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Guardians of the Galaxy characters Ronan and Korath will appear as well, allowing for their stories to be expanded in a way that even James Gunn wasn't able to do in the first Guardians flick. So while Carol Danvers is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe just before Phase Three concludes, her origin story will be deeply connected to the long standing franchise.
It should also be interesting to see exactly how Captain Marvel sets up her crossover in Avengers: Endgame. Aside from handing Nick Fury the pager that he'd eventually use during Infinity War's final moments, the rabid fanbase will expect at least a taste of her eventual appearance alongside the surviving Avengers and Guardians. The most obvious opportunity for this would be through the film's credits scene, therefore allowing the blockbuster to stand on its own two feet. Still, the MCU is known for keeping moviegoers on their toes, so it seems like just about anything is possible.
Once Captain Marvel finally arrives in theaters, perhaps we'll also get a glimpse of her eventual appearance in Avengers: Endgame. The first two brief Endgame trailers didn't feature any shots of Carol Danvers, likely because audience don't have the emotional connection to Brie Larson's MCU hero just yet. In fact, there are some cinephiles who think that a character was cut out of the footage from Endgame's Super Bowl trailer, as there are noticeable gaps in the quick shots of the upcoming blockbuster. While the Russo Brothers could have just about anything up their sleeves, the final month before Phase Three ends will likely focus on the inclusion of Captain Marvel, and the strength and hope she'll likely give the survivors of Thanos' snap.
Avengers: Endgame is also believed to be heavily focused on time travel, as photos from the set revealed the Battle of New York from the first Avengers will be a focus in the upcoming blockbuster. While some Marvel fans believe Scott Lang and the Quantum Realm are the key to traveling through time, Samuel L. Jackson has also teased Carol Danver's time traveling abilities while doing press ahead of Captain Marvel's release.
Carol Danvers will finally make her debut in Captain Marvel on March 8th, and Brie Larson will reprise her Marvel role when Avengers: Endgame wraps up Phase Three on April 26th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
