First Look At The Leading Ladies On The Set Of New Charlie's Angels Movie

Among the many remakes and reboots headed to theaters in 2019 is the new Charlie’s Angels, which is a reboot of the 2000 action-comedy starring Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz, which itself was based on a 1970s TV show of the same name. We have yet to see a trailer for the new Charlie’s Angels, but director Elizabeth Banks has shared an image from set of her with the three women who will be playing the new Angels. Take a look:

This behind-the-scenes photo is our first look at the three angels together alongside Elizabeth Banks, who will play Bosley in the film in addition to directing. Taking over for Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore are Naomi Scott (future Jasmine in Aladdin), Ella Balinska and Kristen Stewart, who looks particularly amped in this photo to be a part of this film and team of ladies.

Based on their glitzy and glamorous formal attire, you might think that this image was from a red carpet event for the film. But since this is a behind-the-scenes set photo, it looks like in their efforts to thwart crime these new Angels will be attending a particularly swanky shindig.

In her tweet, Elizabeth Banks also hashtags #4PercentChallenge. The 4% Challenge is an endeavor by the Time’s Up movement and the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, and is named as such because from 2007 to 2018, only 4% of the directors of the 1,200 top-grossing films were women. At a keynote at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, actress Tessa Thompson formally announced the challenge for people to commit to working with a female director within the next 18 months.

There is already a whole host of actors, directors and studios that have accepted the 4% Challenge on the Time’s Up website, and as you can see from her tweet, Naomi Scott, Kristen Stewart and Ella Balinska can check that they completed the challenge by working with Elizabeth Banks.

Some other people that can check that box are actors Sam Clafin, Noah Centineo, Djimon Hounsou and Patrick Stewart, who also star in Charlie’s Angels. The latter two join Elizabeth Banks in the role of Bosley. So there will be multiple Bosley’s in the film, which makes sense since the new Charlie’s Angels will see that the Townsend Agency has gone global, providing services all around the world.

We don’t yet know what bad guy plots the angels will be fighting to prevent in this film, but Kristen Stewart has teased that the new Charlie’s Angels won’t be campy in the way that the previous ones were. We’ll have to wait till we see the first trailer to judge what that means and how well the new tone works.

Charlie’s Angels opens in theaters on November 1. Check out our release schedule for all of the other big movies coming in 2019, and for all the latest movie news, stay tuned to CinemaBlend.
