Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Trailer Has Been Viewed A Record Number Of Times

Spider-Man giving thumbs up in Far From Home trailer

Well, the cat's out of the bag now for people who don't follow movie news. Spider-Man will somehow be brought back to life during Avengers: Endgame, because just a couple months later, he'll have the spotlight back to himself for Spider-Man: Far From Home. The first trailer for the sequel dropped on Tuesday, and given how popular Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are, it was to be expected it would collect many views. In fact, so many people watched the Far From Home trailer in its first day that it's broken a record for Sony Pictures, which co-produces the MCU Spider-Man movies through its Columbia Pictures label.

In its first 24 hours, the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer racked up 130 million views across the internet, making this the biggest trailer launch in Sony Pictures history. Far From Home toppled its predecessor, 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, which scored 116 million views in its first 24 hours. The Far From Home trailer was also shared by fans at a rate twice the rate of frequency compared to Homecoming's first trailer, according to Deadline.

Spider-Man's been a popular superhero for decades, so it's natural that a lot people would check out the first preview for his next cinematic adventure. However, as for why Spider-Man: Far From Home scored a record-breaking amount of views, no doubt where we left off with Peter Parker at the end of Avengers: Infinity War helped boost interest. When Thanos snapped his fingers and unleashed The Decimation, Peter was among the unlucky half of the universe that was turned to dust, and his demise was particularly heartbreaking to watch. Since Avengers: Endgame is still four months away, we have no idea how Spidey and the other snapped-away heroes will be brought back, but Sony nonetheless decided to get started on promoting Far From Home, and that's off to a huge start.

The last couple months have been great for Sony and its Spider-Man-related projects. Although it didn't actually feature the Wall-Crawler, October's Venom was a box office smash, collecting over $855 million worldwide. A sequel has gotten the green light and Venom is the first entry in Sony's shared universe of Spider-Man characters, with Morbius coming next. Then in December, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse came out, making over $306 million worldwide (so far) and winning the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature earlier this month. An Into the Spider-Verse sequel and spinoff are in development, and there's also been discussions about making TV shows for the franchise.

Now we're reuniting with Tom Holland's Spider-Man twice this year, and once the craziness that is Avengers: Endgame is finished, Spider-Man: Far From Home will see Peter Parker traveling to Europe with his classmates for summer vacation. However, while abroad, Peter is recruited by Nick Fury to team up with Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio, take down mysterious, powerful creatures called Elementals.

Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into theaters on July 5, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for continuing coverage. You can also look through our 2019 release schedule to find out what other movies are arriving this year.
