Thanks to the mischievous mouth and sharp-splicing swords in 2016's Deadpool, grittier and gorier comic book flicks are becoming more common place. The next of its kind is the Hellboy reboot starring Stranger Things' David Harbour as Big Red himself. The lead actor recently talked about how fierce the horned hero is portrayed this time around, saying:

There's really a sense that you're actually killing things, even if they are giants or monsters. You're chopping their heads off, you're bathing in their blood and you're feeling the complex feelings of actually cutting the heart out of another thing. We're taking the time to deal with the fact that Hellboy is a killer. He's a weapon.

This Hellboy isn't for the faint of heart, because when David Harbour's new role debuts on the big screen, blood splatters and realistic-looking executions will soon follow. In his interview with Empire, Harbour detailed the film as quite a gory sight to see, even though he'll be ripping hearts out of horrifying creatures.

If you've been following early details about Hellboy directed by The Decent's Neil Marshall, it's promised to be more closely aligned to the source material by creator Mike Mignola, implementing horror elements over the fantastical vision of Guillermo del Toro's past films, starring Ron Perlman. The R-rating itself will give the film a new freedom to have a different feel than the films seen over a decade ago.

However, the recently released first trailer for Hellboy didn't exactly reflect this vision, as it was a light and energetic introduction to the upcoming film. Fun music blasting as Hellboy shared some humorous moments isn't what we're expecting from the film. From the first look, Hellboy looks to be influenced from other superhero box office hits Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy, though it does tease some intense violence and horror elements.

David Harbour's recent comments suggest that we haven't seen anything yet from Hellboy. The unexpected feel of the trailer was likely chosen to hype up the movie to a wider range of audiences who aren't comic book readers and are looking for a lighthearted action flick to enjoy next spring.

Harbour has also previously called his Hellboy a complicated hero who will grapple with the complexity of wanting to be the good guy despite constantly dealing with unaccepting humans because of his appearance. In Hellboy, he will face-off against Nimue the Blood Queen, played by Milla Jovovich, and be accompanied by the main supporting cast, including Sasha Lane's Alice Monaghan, Ian McShane's Trevor Bruttenholm and Daniel Dae Kim's Ben Daimio.

Hellboy comes to theaters on April 12, 2019 as with an exciting line-up of movies coming in this new year, which you can read up on in our movie release schedule.
