How Tony Stark Could Be Rescued In Avengers: Endgame

Tony Stark Robert Downey Jr. Avengers: Endgame Marvel

Things aren't looking good for Tony Stark in the footage released for Avengers: Endgame thus far. He's been out of food and water for four days, and he's due to run out of oxygen the day following his emotional message to Pepper Potts. Will Tony die in space or will someone come to his rescue? Popular speculation is leaning towards the latter, so here are some potential ways Iron Man may get rescued in Avengers: Endgame.

Tony Saves Himself

Tony Stark appears to be in an impossible situation in the Avengers: Endgame trailer, but that's the type of thing he thrives on. Though his situation may be dire, Tony wouldn't be a hero if he was one to simply lay down and submit when the going gets tough. Surely there has to be some final moment of inspiration that encourages him to try some risky escape method to ensure his survival.

After all, if Tony had one more ace up his sleeve, wouldn't he save it for when it seemed he had no other options? Granted, it may be the riskiest plan he'll try, but when death is all but assured otherwise, it's better to go down swinging and have a chance. That said, his odds of survival without intervention seem pretty low, so maybe he'd rather spend his final hours resting as opposed to trying to escape his fate.

Tony Is Saved By Time Travel

Time travel has been a heavily speculated element of the plot of Avengers: Endgame, and if that is the case, then it may play a factor in Tony's rescue. Perhaps the message he recorded on his helmet could be found long after his passing, and the surviving Avengers could use that data to go back to the time and coordinates in which Tony needed help?

Time travel is a tricky thing. Once one gets into the whole saving a hero via time travel, it opens up questions from fans who wonder why couldn't time travel be used to affect other events that would've kept Tony out of space in the first place. It also stands to reason that this time machine may not be able to travel to the farthest reaches of space, which may make it impossible in the effort of rescuing Tony.

Pepper Potts Gwyneth Paltrow Iron Man 3

Tony Is Saved By Pepper Potts

The most heart-breaking part of Tony's bad situation is his heartfelt farewell to Pepper Potts, who has been by his side through thick and thin this entire run. Having said that, Pepper probably isn't sitting back on Earth waiting on a reading of the will, and is more than likely using all of Stark Industries tech at her disposal to find her beau's location.

How Pepper would save Tony is up for speculation, although it's been heavily hinted to the point of almost confirmation that Pepper Potts will rock an Iron Man-esquesuit in Avengers: Endgame. In the comics, Pepper utilized a suit to aid in disasters and emergencies as the hero Rescue. With that in mind, wouldn't Pepper using the suit to rescue Tony in space be the perfect way to bring all that together for the movie?

Nebula Karen Gillan Avengers: Infinity War Marvel

Tony Is Saved By Nebula

Could the person that ends up saving Tony be someone he barely knows? A scene that shows Nebula in the trailer for Avengers: Endgame appears to show her hanging out in a ship very similar to the one Tony is in. Another scene appears to show her placing a hand on the chest of someone wearing a black shirt, or perhaps Tony's black tank-top.

Nebula and Tony sharing a ship to escape Titan is probable, especially given they're hanging out together shortly after Thanos' snap. Different body compositions may allow for Nebula to survive the harsh conditions of the ship better than Tony, and maybe she'll work out a way to save his life. Or she might just give him a heroic sendoff, as that chest touching doesn't seem like the kind of touch a stranger delivers to someone who is gonna survive.

Rocket Raccoon Bradley Cooper Avengers: Infinity War

Tony Is Saved By Rocket

Out of all of surviving heroes on Earth that know a lot about space travel, Rocket is near the top of the list. Plus, the incredibly resourceful trash panda Guardian could rustle up the means to create a ship capable of traveling a distance to find Tony. The question is, why would Rocket be concerned of searching out and rescuing Tony?

The simple answer is that he wouldn't, but Rocket is probably exceptionally worried about the fate of the other Guardians. Right now, Rocket only knows that Groot is gone, so Marvel would be fools not to set up a scene where Rocket learns the rest of his friends are gone as well. Tony is one of the few Avengers who would know of Peter, Drax, Gamora and Mantis, so he might have to be the one to deliver the news.

Captain Marvel Alison Brie Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel Saves Tony

This is, perhaps, the most plausible theory on how Iron Man will be saved. We've written on this topic already, and the logic behind it is sound. Carol was already summoned to head to Earth by Nick Fury, and is confirmed to be a part of Avengers: Endgame. Wouldn't it makes sense that her introduction in the film comes via her stumbling across Tony's ship?

Possibly, and if Captain Marvel is fated to find Iron Man and whoever else he may be sharing a ship with on her way to Earth, it may be alluded to in her upcoming feature. While the film is set to take place in the past, perhaps a post-credits scene will feature Carol receiving that distress signal from Nick. That would be an easy way to bring her character into the future and show how she intends to travel to Earth.

The time to speculate on details regarding Avengers: Endgame is winding down, as Marvel's big movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 26, 2019. For more on Tony's situation and who could be helping him, check out the entertaining exchange actor Robert Downey Jr. had with NASA.
