Spoilers ahead for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

It's hard to believe it, but J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World has had the public under its spell for decades at this point. Harry Potter's universe is still being expanded through theme parks and a Broadway show, but the most fascinating additions are coming from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. The second out of five movies recently arrived in theaters, as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald changed the canon in fascinating ways.

Does anyone else have chills? While the Wizarding World has always been a place known for its plot twists, it looks like J.K. Rowling is going to provide some answers with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts threequel. Of course, we'll have to wait quite some time until moviegoers see those plans come to fruition.

J.K. Rowling's recent Tweet will no doubt excite the generations of Harry Potter fans out there who were left confused and mystified by the ending of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The time before the First Wizarding War is finally become clear, along with the mysterious past of characters like Dumbledore, Nagini, and even Professor McGonagall. And with Rowling making drastic changes to the canon, the fandom is eager for concrete answers to their myriad questions.

Of course, the most drastic change made to Harry Potter lore came in the final moments of The Crimes of Grindelwald. After Queenie and Credence joined Grindelwald's villainous army, the latter character's origin was finally explained. After utilizing Queenie's telepathic powers to further manipulate Ezra Miller's troubled young character, Grindelwald reveals that Credence is actually named Aurelius Dumbledore. AKA he's Dumbledore's brother, and the fourth sibling in the family. Talk about a plot twist.

Credence's lineage isn't the only question surrounding Fantastic Beasts 3, so there should be plenty of threads for J.K. Rowling to pull from in the upcoming threequel. Nagini's backstory is still largely a mystery, and her eventual transformation into a snake and horocrux should be fascinating. The true nature of Dumbledore and Grindelwald's relationship should also be expanded, as well as Queenie's motivations and turn to the dark side.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is still in theaters now. Be sure to check out our 2019 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.
