Amber Heard Wants A DC Spinoff With Mera And Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Amber Heard as Mera in Aquaman

Bow down to DC's Wonder Women. Amber Heard's Mera and Gal Gadot's Diana Prince were both in Justice League, but Mera had a very small role. Amber Heard wants more, and she wants it with Wonder Woman. Heard is currently promoting Aquaman's upcoming release, but she's already looking to the future of the DCEU. In a lighthearted video interview, she revealed her dream project:

I'd love to team up with Wonder Woman. That would be a kickass duo right there. I'm vying for a spinoff, you heard it here. I'm fishing for whatever I'm fishing for. ... Mera and Wonder Woman spinoff. Go for it, Warner Bros.

Should Warner Bros. go for it?

Both Mera and Diana Prince are warrior royalty -- Wonder Woman is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and Zeus, and Mera the daughter of King Nereus. Wonder Woman has her own sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, coming up in 2020. But that's another prequel, set before the events of Justice League. A Diana/Mera spinoff could move the story forward, with both heroes using their respective powers to ... do whatever DC wants them to do. Or whatever Amber Heard wants them to do, as first pitched in her THR video.

So far, the DCEU has had several teamups, from the Suicide Squad villains to the more traditional heroes of Justice League. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) of Suicide Squad is returning with a girl gang for the R-rated Birds of Prey in 2020. Wonder Woman and Mera aren't scheduled to be in that movie, but they could cameo -- or Warner Bros. could just go straight to giving the duo their own movie, for release sometime after the many other DC films in development.

It's not clear what will stay on the board, but DCEU still has a Cyborg movie, The Flash movie, Green Lantern Corps, Matt Reeves' Batman movie, Suicide Squad 2, whatever is happening with Jared Leto's Joker movie -- as opposed to Joaquin Phoenix's non-DCEU Joker -- Gotham City Sirens, The Rock's Black Adam movie, Plastic Man, etc. The list goes on.

DC is becoming like Netflix, they just say yes to everything. Except, unlike Netfix, not everything makes it to the screen. (And even when it does make it to the screen, some things get lost along the way.)

For now, the DCEU has Aquaman hitting theaters on Friday, December 21. So far, the reviews have been very positive, and if the box office is as strong as it could be, that would certainly help Amber Heard's spinoff argument. Ticket sales speak louder than words.

The 2018 film year is winding down with Aquaman, but it's not the only release still ahead in the next few weeks. Plus, there are almost too many amazing films ready for the big screen in 2019.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
