What’s Happening With The Uncharted Movie, According To The Director

Uncharted

With a director and a star, it seemed like the long-awaited Uncharted movie was finally moving forward, but things have been quiet now for quite some time. However, it seems that the movie might be getting ready to get rolling. Director Shawn Levy has stated that, of the various projects that he currently has in the hopper, the Uncharted movie is the one closest to getting off the ground. The film has a script, so it just needs to find the supporting cast and get on everybody's schedule. According to Levy...

I mean, as of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it's a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near horizon. And it's a movie I'm very excited about.

While it's important that the Uncharted movie has a star and a script, it's had those things for quite some time and we still haven't seen much movement. Joe Carnahan announced that his script was done a year ago last January. Of course, that news came before it was announced that Tom Holland would be playing the role and the movie would be an origin story, so it's unclear if the same script is being used. Either way, Uncharted now has a script that is apparently ready to go before cameras. Now, they just need to actually do it.

Of course, Tom Holland is a bit busy right now, as he's currently filming Spider-Man: Far From Home so we don't expect Uncharted to be getting started anytime too soon. After all, the actor who's busy is the only one who is officially attached to the project. As Shawn Levy told The Playlist, additional casting is one of the things the film needs to do. One assumes there will be a role for "Sully," Nathan Drake's mentor/partner. A few names have been rumored to be attached to the part, but no casting announcements have been made.

While nothing official has been happening with the Uncharted movie, something unofficial has. Nathan Fillion, who has long been the popular choice to play Nathan Drake on the big screen, starred in a fan film where he did, in fact, take on the iconic role. It's an absolute masterpiece and it sets the bar for the eventual Uncharted movie fairly high.

Fans of the adventure game series have been waiting a long time to see an Uncharted movie, while they're going to have to wait a while longer, it looks like the waiting may be coming to an end sooner rather than later, though no clear end date is in sight.
