Subscribe To Shazam! Actor Zachary Levi Talks Joining The Justice League Updates
Zack Snyder's Justice League introduced the world to a number of DC icons like Barry Allen and Arthur Curry, but one of the most exciting upcoming debuts is that of Billy Batson a.k.a Shazam. The hero is set to debut in David F. Sandberg's Shazam! next year and many fans have wondered if the kid-turned-superhero could then graduate to the big leagues of the Justice League roster. Addressing that possibility in a recent interview, Shazam actor Zachary Levi voiced his own enthusiasm about that idea and said:
Spoken like a proper Billy Batson. Zachary Levi doesn't have time to play coy about the possibility of joining the Justice League roster for a potential sequel. He's into it, and as he laid out in his recent remarks to EW, he wants to see it happen so he can appear on a poster with heroes like Gal Gadot's Diana Prince and Henry Cavill's Superman.
This would make plenty of sense when we put Shazam's place in the DC mythos into perspective. One of the oldest heroes in the DC canon, he has played a pivotal role in a number of beloved comic book story arcs over the years and developed relationships with some of DC's most iconic heroes. Logistically speaking, he's arguably a perfect fit for the current New 52-inspired lineup that the DCEU has assembled.
Of course, we do need to note that there's currently no word as to whether or not another Justice League movie will actually happen in the near future. The film ends with the promise that all of the DCEU heroes will remain active in that world, and it suggests bigger adventures to come, but the film's critical and commercial performance doesn't necessarily bode well for an immediate sequel. At this point, the possibility of further Justice League movies likely hinges on the success or failure of upcoming spinoff projects like James Wan's Aquaman, David F. Sandberg's Shazam!, and Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984.
As always, CinemaBlend will bring you more information related to all of the upcoming DCEU films as new details surface. With San Diego Comic-Con kicking off this weekend, there's bound to be a ton of great information about all of these awesome heroes. Beyond Comic-Con, make sure to watch out for the debut of Aquaman later this year on December 21, and keep an eye out for Zachary Levi's Shazam and his solo film on April 5, 2019.
