First Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Footage Has Millie Bobby Brown Trying To Reach Monarch

There are a lot of reasons to get excited about next year's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but they aren't limited to seeing the spectacle of kaiju duking it out for dominion over the Earth. The sequel also marks the first feature film role for Stranger Things' breakout actress Millie Bobby Brown. So with all the fandom her role as Eleven has won her, it seems only fitting that the first footage we get to see from the sequel to 2014's Godzilla features the young actress. Take a look below to see Millie Bobby Brown's Madison Russell trying to reach Monarch, the scientific organization that studies these monsters, in Godzilla: King of the Monsters:

Well, that is certainly ominous and does not bode well for the folks at Monarch, and this time Eleven can't make the monsters go away at the cost of a little nosebleed. This short clip paints a bleak picture of the dangers facing the world in this sequel film and Millie Bobby Brown's Madison Russell looks as though she will be facing some of those dangers alone. There are a couple of noteworthy things in this footage that raise interesting questions about the story in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

For one thing, Millie Bobby Brown's character's hands appear to be bandaged, so something must have happened to her. Also, when she uses the radio, she hesitates for a moment before saying she's trying to reach Monarch. Is that because she's not supposed to contact them, or does she not really want to and is doing it as a last resort? Then when she finally does hear something back, it becomes apparent that whoever it is on the radio, they are the ones that really need saving. I'm guessing that Monarch or whoever it is may have received a proper and unwelcome introduction to Mothra and/or King Ghidorah.

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Millie Bobby Brown plays the daughter of Kyle Chandler's Mark Russell and Vera Farmiga's Dr. Emma Russell. Although we still don't know much, we do know that Dr. Madison Russell is a paleobiologist who has found a way to communicate with the massive unidentified terrestrial organisms like Godzilla. Based on that, it seems likely that Dr. Russell works for Monarch. So the question becomes, if her mom works for Monarch, why isn't Madison with her? The location doesn't really look like a home, so it doesn't seem like a situation where she is trying to call her mom at work. What's more likely is that they got separated somehow when everything went bad.

This isn't just a cool bit of footage (hopefully in advance of a trailer) either. The tweet to Monarch replied with message received, so presumably Monarch is still out there. The Monarch Sciences Twitter account also posted a Godzilla tracker and a link to a viral site where civilians can help defend the world by tracking Godzilla and discovering the other titans.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters roars into theaters on May 31, 2019. For all the latest on Godzilla moving on to fight the Mind Flayer/Shadow Monster after he beats the brakes off of King Kong, stay tuned to CinemaBlend.
