Laurence Fishburne Talks His Thoughts On Justice League And His DCEU Future

Laurence Fishburne perry White Man of Steel

Laurence Fishburne has involved himself in a broad range of notable franchise films over the years, ranging from The Matrix to Predators. That said, he's also no stranger to the world of comic book movies, with Ant-Man and The Wasp standing out as his latest foray into the subgenre. Before he entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, he was a member of the DCEU as The Daily Planet's Perry White, but now it seems that Fishburne doesn't know if there's a future for him in that world post-Justice League. In a recent interview, Fishburne talked about the DC superhero team-up movie and what he thinks is going on with his character, noting,

I don't think I'm still on call. I was unfortunately unable to go do some work on what turned out to be the Justice League movie. I don't know that I need to go back or if they'll have me back or not, but I was grateful to have been a part of it. I loved working with Zack, I think he makes an incredible superhero movie. I'm just excited to be a part of [Ant-Man] now.

As fans will recall, Laurence Fishburne was an integral part of the DCEU in its first two installments. He debuted as Perry White in Man of Steel as Lois Lane's tough-but-fair boss at The Daily Planet, and he reprised that role once more in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, Fishburne was nowhere to be found in Justice League (even though The Planet did feature in that particular story) and now the actor seems to think that his time as a member of the DC Extended Universe has come to an end. He doesn't feel compelled to go back (though he admittedly did love working with Zack Snyder), and he doesn't think the folks at DC have him "on call."

Of course, while Laurence Fishburne has essentially jumped ship to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018, he doesn't seem to harbor any ill will towards his previous comic book movie home. In fact, he noted that he's a longtime fan of the Marvel lore and the DC lore, and he's happy to be one of those actors who has had a chance to be part of both worlds.

With all of that said, Laurence Fishburne's remarks about Perry White and the DCEU continue to feed into the overarching conversation about a potential second Man of Steel. Elsewhere in the actor's comments to Den of Geek, he noted that he has yet to hear anything about the a follow-up to the 2013 origin movie. We have heard on-and-off rumors about that particular project for quite some time, but from Laurence Fishburne's perspective, it at least sounds like his iteration of Perry White isn't involved at this time.

For now, you can currently catch Laurence Fishburne in Ant-Man and The Wasp, which is now in theaters. If you are looking for more information about the film, then check out our in-depth review, or let us know your own thoughts about the movie here.
