Another Major British Actor Is Down To Play Captain Britain In The MCU

Will Turner in Pirates

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the edge of a precipice. Phase Three will soon come to a close with Avengers 4, with many of the shared universe's lead actors completing their contracts and presumably leaving their roles. Considering the likelihood of these heroes being killed off, the MCU is going to need to bring in new heroes to help fill the ranks and complete the ensemble. We've already seen how lesser known heroes like Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy could capture hearts, so perhaps its time for a hero like Captain Britain to arrive. Actor/writer Simon Pegg has already expressed his interest to bring the character into the MCU, and now Orlando Bloom has put his name in the running as well, saying:

I do read [Marvel Comics] a little bit. Who's the British one? Captain Britain! There you go. Terrible costume, though. And you've also got Captain America so what're you going to do? Captain Britain versus Captain America?

While Orlando Bloom has already had supporting roles in two major blockbuster franchises, he's about ready to jump into the ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bloom certainly has enough fans in the community, so it's just a matter of whether or not the character would be valuable enough to translate into live-action.

Orlando Bloom's comments come from his recent appearance on the BBCs' Radio 2. With so many shared universes and comic book franchises currently being produced, every actor is expected to take the mantle of a hero or villain in the near future. Some actors are purposefully trying to stay away from the genre, although Bloom has never been shy when it comes to iconic action-heavy movies.

While Orlando Bloom hasn't portrayed a comic book character, he's certainly got the resume to back up having superpowers and some tights. The actor is perhaps best known for playing Legolas in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was so popular that the elf was written into The Hobbit movies as well, despite not being present in the original book. Bloom also played Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and also had some extra action sequences when starring as Paris in Troy.

Captain Britain is a lesser known Marvel comic book hero, although it makes sense that Bloom would be familiar with the Marvel character across the pond. Named Brian Braddock, Captain Britain gains superpowers through magic. Magic was introduced to the MCU with Doctor Strange, so the door is open for Captain Britain to finally pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: Infinity War is still in theaters now, and the next installment in the MCU is Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
