Don’t Breathe 2 May Actually Be Happening

The Blind Man killing Money

It's no secret that we're in the midst of a horror renaissance. Rather than stale franchises and cheesy villains, the horror genre has seen the ride of new and exciting properties. These projects have been met with both critical acclaim and box office success, making room for even more installments and scares. Many of the best horror movies from the past few years have come to us from Blumhouse Productions, which is helping to revamp the horror genre as we know it. This includes hits like Get Out, Insidious, and Don't Breathe. The latter was a truly terrifying ride, and now it looks like we may be getting a possible sequel in the future.

While there has been no official announcement for a Don't Breathe sequel, it does appear that the early talks and development stages have begun. Actor Stephen Lang starred as the film's blind villain, and recently let slip that there are plan to bring his horrifying character back for a sequel. When Lang was recently asked if he'd be interested in bringing back his character, he said answered with "Oh yeah, we're doing a sequel." So gear up horror fans, because The Blind Man will be back for more mayhem and horror in the future.

Stephen Lang's comments to Screen Rant are sure to excite the horror fans who were both captivated and terrified by his performance in Don't Breathe. While the movie originally painted The Blind Man as a victim, things quickly took a turn when Rocky and her friends broke in and attempted to rob him. Once they were caught, escape seemed nearly impossible, as the Blind Man chased them through his house of horrors. The result was extremely tense, and a film that should definitely be given new life with a potential sequel.

Of course, it's important to note that Stephen Lang's statement about Don't Breathe 2 is not an actual confirmation that the film will ever happen. It certainly seems like things are at the earliest stages of development, and the plans for the sequel could very well be squashed by the studio. If there isn't a compelling enough story to explore, Blumhouse could just decide to call it quits on the potential franchise. So we'll just have to wait for a concrete confirmation from the studio before we can officially start the Don't Breathe 2 party.

Narratively, the first film's ending did lay some groundwork for a potential sophomore outing. While her friends perished, Rocky (Jane Levy) was ultimately able to make it out alive, and with the necessary money to get she and her sister out of their abusive household. But The Blind Man also survived, and was able to spin his story into one of triumph and survival to news outlets. Now he's got the ability to continue terrorizing people, and possibly have another captive kept in his horrible basement.
