If there's one thing you can count on from James Gunn and his Guardians of the Galaxy movies, is that they will be loaded with tons of easter eggs for fans to track down. Some of these range from the simple to the apparently impossible to find, and it turns out that not every single one makes it into the movie. James Gunn, continuing his reputation of being one of the most accessible directors through social media, posted to Facebook some easter eggs that had to be cut from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The majority of these are from the scene in St. Charles, Missouri, the original home of Peter Quill. During the scene in which Ego's cosmic jello blob is rampaging through the streets of St. Charles, eagle-eyed fans may notice that the names of the various shops sound pretty familiar. That's because they are named after writers and artists of Marvel comics who are responsible for influential Guardians of the Galaxy stories. The bits of trivia were originally going to be more prominent, but Gunn has now offered a closer look.

The names are as follows: Bill Mantlo, the co-creator of Rocket Racoon; Andy Landing and Dan Abnett, the duo behind Annihilation: Conquest and the now iconic modern line-up of the Guardians; Keith Giffen, the writer of Annihilation, one of the best Marvel cosmic stories; Jim Starlin, co-creator of Thanos, Drax, Gamora, and basically the "cosmic king of Marvel;" Steve Englehart, writer of several Marvel's characters like The Avengers, Doctor Strange, and Captain America.

That's veritable who's who of Marvel comic writers. Several of these writers and artists are responsible for some of the best cosmic storylines in Marvel, and their work is a big inspiration for James Gunn's movies. We've talked before about how some of these storylines could be big deals in the MCU's future, so it's no wonder they get their own gourmet cheese shops and kitchen supply stores.

James Gunn also posted a picture of himself with Greg Henry, who played Peter Quill's grandfather in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. He was originally supposed to be more visible in the sequel, running away from the evil blob, but he was lost to the cutting room floor. He also had a scene that was cut from the first Guardians movie too.

We don't know when to expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but you can next see the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War, due out in theaters on May 4, 2018.
