Dontnod Entertainment and Square Enix released Life Is Strange 2's first episode way back in September for home consoles and PC. The first episode was a lengthy two-hour introduction into the world centered around two brothers with unique powers. The second episode for the series has now finally received its official release date along with a live-action trailer to accompany it.
The two minute trailer reveals that the second episode is due to drop on January 24th, 2019. The trailer was posted on the PlayStation YouTube channel, starts with Daniel sitting in a motel room flipping through the channels on the TV. Daniel eventually comes across a news report revealing that their dad is dead, and he ends up unleashing a shock wave that completely destroys the room and causes the lights across the motel to go out. Daniel's older brother, Sean, then comes in to comfort him. After the live action segment the trailer then rounds out with some brief clips of the actual game.
For those of you who played the first episode of Life Is Strange 2, you'll note that the clips featuring Daniel and Sean trekking across the northwest U.S. picks up from where their journey last left off. This comes after they were rescued by the web blogger, following their violent encounter with the store owner after they attempted to get food and supplies.
Their journey got underway after Sean and his neighbor got into a fight and the neighbor fell back and hit his head on a rock, presumably paralyzing him. When an officer showed up at the scene things got tense, and when Sean and Daniel's dad came out to calm things down, the officer panicked and shot him, which triggered Daniel's psychokinetic abilities, incapacitating the officer and blowing up his car. This was originally teased during the free prequel episode The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. However, it was originally assumed that Chris, the nine-year-old protagonist of the episode had special powers. It turns out that it was actually Daniel, who had a brief cameo at the end of the episode.
Daniel's powers are more visceral and destructive in Life Is Strange 2 as opposed to the time-manipulation abilities that Max Claufield had in the original Life Is Strange.
The trailer doesn't really give anything away as far as the plot is concerned, other than that Daniel and Sean are still on the run from the police and are attempting to make their way south back to Mexico, but haven't done all that great a job of it.
The trailer teases a few of the environmental perils the duo will encounter, such as attempting to trek across Oregon during winter. There's apparently a rickety old bridge that gives them a bit of trouble, along with a house that looks like it could give them a place of refuge. But knowing Dontnod Entertainment, there's likely some trick that either waylays or sets the duo back in their journey.
You'll be able to find out exactly what happens when the second episode of Life Is Strange 2 releases for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and on mobile devices starting January 24th, 2019 next month.
