Even though Electronic Arts and DICE's biggest game launch of the fall season is Battlefield V, for some reason both companies have been putting a lot of time and effort into talking about the 2017 release of Star Wars: Battlefront II. In fact, there's now a more detailed layout of what gamers can expect for the 2019 content plans regarding the popular multiplayer shooting game.

Over on the official EA website for Star Wars: Battlefront II, there's a post on what DICE is working on right now, and what the team has planned for release in the future heading into 2019 and beyond.

The team will start things off with the release of Count Dooku and Anakin Skywalker, both of whom are following up on the release of General Grievous and Obi-Wan Kenobi, two popular characters from The Clone Wars era.

Additionally, DICE will be adding in more Clone Trooper variations and trooper-types, giving gamers more variety in how they play and who they play. This includes additional appearances of Clone Troopers from the war. There will also be a brand new game mode being added that introduces the use of command posts and capital ship takedowns.

Now this sounds similar to the original Space Battles mode that was implemented into the 2005 version of Star Wars: Battlefront II that came out under Pandemic Studios' watch. In that, players would have to hop into a spacecraft, dog fight across a star field to another capital ship, and either destroy certain components on the ship or fly inside and begin to battle inside the capital ship to destroy certain control systems.

The original Space Battles mode was intense and required a lot of teamwork and a lot of skill to win the match. A lot of gamers assumed that the mode would return along with the Galactic Conquest mode, but those modes weren't available during the launch of the game back in 2017. Instead, DICE had to focus a lot of its attention for many months on completely overhauling the game's monetization system after the team had to remove the loot boxes following outrage from parents who petitioned Disney to have EA remove the premium loot boxes from the game.

But new characters, skins, and game modes aren't the only thing coming to Star Wars: Battlefront II in 2019. The team also referenced the Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace quote "You can't stop the change, any more than you can stop the suns from setting," which is the philosophy that DICE is utilizing for designing content for the multiplayer shooter. The post acknowledges that the team is constantly looking for new ways to enhance the game and add new ways to play the game.

We don't actually know what the new content will be like beyond the first quarter of 2019, but hopefully DICE has some nice surprises in store for gamers. According to the developmental roadmap, it reveals that February is when we'll see the arrival of Anakin, the new capital ship game mode, and the new Clone Trooper appearances based on the 501st Legion, also known as Vader's Fist.

At the end of February, there's also going to be the inclusion of capital ship interiors, which should add a whole new layer of complexity and nuance to the multiplayer battles in Star Wars: Battlefront II. We don't know what's coming beyond February, but we'll have to stay tuned for more info from DICE.
